Turbo Whoosh

I know this is a Rav forum but the members on here seem to be more technically minded than on the Verso forum!!!!

I had my Verso 2-2D4D serviced with a 20,000 mile service I also had two new tyres fitted

After the service I noticed that I am getting a whoosh at about 1600 rev when first accelerating !! The performance is certainly much better now after the service but I find it quite annoying to hear this as i have never heard it before.

Has anybody got any ideas why and what could they have done at the service to cause this effect

Thanks for any replies

Just have a quick look around the air filter and pipes to and from the turbo. Sometimes they have to take one off to get at something and it will lose pressure (leak) through it if the clips are not tight.

I get a good whooooooooshhhhh when accelerating with the petrol turbo.... and it starts around 2000rpm. By 5000rpm, you don't hear it as the noise tends to drown it until you floor the pedal again!

If the car is performing better, perhaps there was a problem before?

Just to update you what has happened as anchorman suggested I had a look round but not being very mechanically minded could not see anything obvious  !!

Took it back to the dealer and he had a look and described it as turbo whistle and said there is not a lot they can do for it .

Anyway he unclipped the air filter box and moved the air filter about a bit and for some reason its seems to have sorted the problem out !! whether the air filter cover had not been clipped properly I do not know but its okay now!!

Thanks anchorman and bothwell_buyer for taking the time to post

The air filter is a very effective silencer. If you take it out and listen to the engine you won't believe the din so it makes sense that if it wasn't seated properly that it could generate excessive noise.

Glad you're sorted.

I tried a K+N filter in mine and couldnt discern any difference in economy or performance, although it was a perfect fit, i also experienced a whooshing noise from the filter box which soon became annoying, i then changed back to the OEM denso filter and all is well again, another waste of £49

still got it if anyone wants to give it a try :(

Not for me thanks. The air filter is another one of those items that the Original Equipment one is hard to beat. The 2.2 diesel one is a work of art and worth the money. I will be ordering a couple of Kingo soon.

Some people like that throaty noise from a K&N filter but I think it makes it sound like a nail - just like those big bore exhausts
