Servicing In West Yorks

Hi, I'm new to this forum so  to all posters.

So for my first question, we've had the car since new (04) and is due a service 37000 miles. I would prefer to start taking the car to a non franchise specialist in my area --West Yorks. I think you usually get a better service at more competative prices. Are there any such garages in our area?

When and even if does a cambelt need doing 04 XT4 D4D?

Also need four new tyres, have had a quote from Costco for Michelin Latitude tour hp, £105 each fitted and balanced, does this sound like a good swap, i'm sure you guys know which tyres suit the car best.

Thanks in advance for all advice!

Cheers. Dunx.

Dunx - ok - wot are you on?? posting at 6.33pm on a saturday (well it is in Scotland) ??

Welcome to this madhouse of millions of folk - 99% who watch; 0.7% who add something and me!!!!

Yer XT4 - dunno - does it have a cambelt anchorman??

Tyres - s**t. Maybe not a bad price but make sure you get new valves and sumwun else will comment cos i don't like Michelin tyres cos they're frenchish. And expensive and soft but thats just me.

4 years old - get yersel an expert mechanic that knows what goes on. Ye'll find they are the same age as anchorman or thereabouts. No point coming up tae Glasgae the night as ahm oan the 67%proof cask strength whisky after a funny day - more details about delta Airlines in another post soon.

At 4 years old, I'd be thinking about getting the brake fluid done if its not done already.

Where is west Yorkshire - is that near Otley??

Hi Dunx

Welcome to the club. Your cam belt is due at 60k or 5 years but you'll have to wait for somebody local to answer the other questions.

I had the first service at Mr T's in Ripon. I was surprised to put it mildly that they charged to adjust the handbrake. I thought that an adjustment like that would be part and parcel of a service, never having paid for any other main dealer for any other make of car for that.

The second one was at Mr T's service centre in Halifax. Only gripe was that if I got the car there at 10.00 it would be ready by 14.30. 14.30 became 15.30 became 16.30 became 17.30 -and it wasn't as if it needed any extra work doing.

Had reversing sensors fitted at Mr Ts in Huddersfield -very polite. Used to give gold membership discount but gold membership doesn't seem to exist anymore so don't know if they give any discount just for being a bog standard member.

The third one is due September -seriously thinking about taking it to Lindrop over in Queensferry and doing Chester Zoo & Mersey river trip.

Doesn't answer your question about an independent -sorry

If you fancy a ride out my local garage that is run by 2 mature time served mechanics will charge £310 for a full service including all filters and semi synthetic oil. The price also includes brake fluid change and handbrake adjustment if necessary. The car will only be worked on by one of the 2 owners. They are P&P (Pete and Pete) Motors and we are in Chapel en le Frith which is about half way between Stockport and Sheffield. They would ned it for best part of the day as they do everything including all the wheels coming off to inspect the brakes and not peering through the wheels like most do.

redlew Do you mind me asking how much they added for the handbrake adjustment? And for anyone else don't forget the instructions for doing it are pinned in the maintenace tips.

Bothy I have been working from home this week (I produce training material on my computer for them) which allows me to track your movements as well!!!

For anybody wondering how your cam shaft is driven (belt or chain),

4.2 2.0 VVTi has a chain, 2.0 D4D has a belt

4.3 Both 2.0VVTi and 2.2 D4D have chains

Regards

Anchorman -£22 plus vat. They said it should have been £44 + vat. After a full and frank and exchange of views they refunded it as a gesture of goodwill.

Ok, Cheers guys, plenty of food for thought there, will do some more research ( aint tinternet brill! ) and make a managment decision- sometime.

Cambelt next year then = someone who knows what there doin'. May be worth a visit to Chapel then. My other car gets serviced in Holmfirth Huddersfield so thats halfway there!

Just went back to see about tyres today and Michelin have put up all their prices, now they're £113 each. Confirmed it's accross the board by searching on web and they've ALL put prices up, gone up to £121 at tyreshopper. Should have bought them two weeks ago and saved £32 :(

Great forum- thanx again.

Dunx.
