Advice Needed On Corolla Rear Brakes Please!

Hi everyone. I have a 2002 Corolla which is fitted with disc brakes on the rear. The parking brake however is a standard cable-operated drum/shoe arrangement. There is excessive travel on the handbrake lever which suggests that the shoes need adjusting. My question is this - are these shoes self-adjusting or is there a way to manually adjust them apart from adjusting the cable at the handbrake lever end? The car has only done 35k miles and so I would not expect the shoes to show much wear, especially as they only function as a parking brake and NOT for actual vehicle braking purposes, which is done by the discs/pads. Maybe the cable has stretched ? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

if you look at the drum part of the disc you will see a screw - thats the adjuster.

yep turn it with a screwdriver till the wheel wont spin then back off four clicks then adjust the cable so it locks the wheel at about 5-8 ratchets IIRC
