Cam Belt Change

I've got a 1.8 GLS 1998.

First question is what is the frequency of the cambelt change?

Second, if it needs a new one soon (and at 125,000 I think it is imminent if not even overdue) how hard are they to do? I've got the Haynes manual and am reasonable at mechanics.

Anyone got any other tips?

I'm also getting a sort of thrumming noise coming from the back of the car, sounds like something is wearing out. It's not bearings as I've jacked the wheels up and given them a !Removed! good wiggle.

Thoughts please.

Thanks folks.

To peterc.

If your engine code is 7A-FE, job is reasonably straight forward. But you will need a jack to support engine & puller to remove bottom crank pulley. You will be very lucky if pulley comes off without puller, interferance fit. Belt should be changed at 60,000 miles. If engine code is different & you have V V T i engine then it is chain driven. If working on ground should take about 3 hrs roughly.
