Just a little niggling question I would like an answer to.

I didn't even think about it until a couple of days after delivery. I've got the standard number plates without the little GB EEC logo at the side. Is this something that had to be pre-ordered & is there an extra charge for this?

Totally dependant on the dealer, mate.

They'll put the same 'plates on every car they sell. I suppose you could've asked for them, but they'd have probably charged you extra!!! :)

Just to annoy you, picked my car up a couple of days ago, and it had the 'plates with "GB" logo on ;)

It doesn't really make any difference which one's you have. If you travel abroad it just means that you don't have to display and additional "GB" sticker to the rear of the car. If you don't intend taking it abroad, just be proud to be different. :D

My dealer told me that they fit all new registered cars with the GB number plates and have done for the last 2 years.

He claims that the difference in cost is "negligeable"

Thanks guys

I'm not thinking of driving abroad just yet (might get as far as Guernsey in the summer maybe). It was just something I thought of after the event & wasn't sure if there was some EEC law that required them.

Can't get annoyed with this little baby!

How are you enjoying your Platinum?

Had mine 4 weeks 2 days now (sad! counting the days). Really love it. Only washed it 3 times & waxed it once - you just can't beat that shine. I've never had a new car before & had not driven regularly for 15 years (lived in London & didn't need a car) - but am sooo pleased with my new baby (style on wheels) & love cruising through the country lanes of Dorset. Many miles - little cost.

Well, It's very, VERY early days yet as I only picked it up four days ago !!

First impressions are good. I took a Pug 107 out for the day just to make sure I could live with the "performance",(I traded in a 180bhp GTI ! :o ) but was surprised with the way the little 1 litre job goes...

Had a rear spoiler, front fogs, and protect pack fitted, so it looks a little different, too. (Oh, and a smaller aerial. What's that standard thing all about????)

My mates think I've gone mad.

I do know one thing, though. My OCD for washing cars will be put to the test with the Aygo. 4 days old, and it looks like its been driven 1000 miles through muddy forests at 100mph!!!! :D

Saving up for next year's road tax @ .39 pence a week. :D :D

Cheers

Lofty.

At least you've got a choice of some sort.

Over here the little blue thingie is mandatory up to the

point that not having them will get you a fail on the MOT...

I actually kind of like the thingie, as with its introduction the oval country-

stickers have become obsolete. And be honest: those are REALLY ugly...

I'm sure it will just be a matter of time before ALL plates on new cars will be Euro plates

On another number plate issue, we now sell anti theft number plates, they cant be removed from your car without destroying the plate. In areas where congestion charging is going on, the latest craze is to steal your number plates, screw them on the bandit car, and travel without having to pay anything!

I'm not sure if I understand: are numberplates in the UK made of PLASTIC?

Over here they're alminium, with the letters either stamped in or sort of rivited on...

On my Aygo I've rivited the plates onto the car instead of using those clip-on frames to prevent theft...

I asked for GB plates pre-delivery and got them fitted no problems :)

My plates are stuck on with two sided tape ummm 1st job on the list then before they go missing

The one annoying thing with plastic plates is that when first fitted (and when replaced) usually the incorrect clearance holes are drilled and/or the screws are over tightened resulting in either immediate cracking of the plate around the screw or this happening in a certain period of time.

Annoying really since personally i think plastic plates look better than alu ones

I've had my platinum about that long, haven't washed it yet, (oops, neglectful me!!)

Mine didn't come with the euro bit either. Not sure I'd want it, if I have anything on there it would be the Welsh one. Halfrauds or places like http://www.demonplates.com/ will do them for you.

I want one with a Fulham FC Badge on it.

Come on - get the bucket & sponge out!

In the near future you wont be able to have Welsh flags, Fulham FC or the like, it will be GB or GB, the choice is yours

Euro (and other flags) on number plates

Since 1st September 2001 you have been able to choose to display a Euro flag, for vehicles registered in the UK. The Euro-plate is a number plate that has the symbol of the European Union (a circle of 12 stars on a blue background) with the national identification letters of the member states below it (for example GB). This symbol is located on the far left-hand side of the number plate.

Vehicles displaying this Euro symbol on the number plate no longer have to use the traditional oval shaped national identifier (GB) sticker when travelling within the European Union. All vehicles registered in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have, by international convention, the distinguishing sign GB.

On 28 December 2001, the Government announced the intention to permit the display of national flags and national identifiers on vehicle number plates. The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 are in the process of being amended. They will provide for the voluntary display of the Union flag, Scottish Saltire, Cross of St George and Red Dragon. Football team crests etc. are not allowed.

You are right about the football crests but not the national flags, those are allowed. However the government changes the rules all the time so who is to say what will happen.

I've seen loads of cars with all sorts of crests and flags and dodgy lettering. These are illegal and should be failing MOTs but lenient testers and busy police mean people get away with it.
