Hi All,

Bearing in mind i have a Typhoon and the TTE backbox fitted, is there anyway to get more torque without spending a fortune?

Any ideas? :g:

pipercams.co.uk do cams for the vvtli engine. should add some torque according to banzai mag this month.

They show one for the Celica VVTL-i, assuming its the same then 15BHP & 26lbs of torque  are available for £530+VAT. Not sure how much it would cost to have it fitted though, its one to think about.

I wonder if anyone has had it done and if it makes the improvement it claims to?

doubt anyone has it. its only featured in banzai mag this month as a new part on the market. check the celica ts forum

them piper cams have been out for a while - over a year. i remember someone posting about them when they first come out and nobody had em fitted. well worth considering especially after i changed the lift bolts and seen the state the original cams are in after 40k. that £530 is a bit misleading - thats only the cams and not the kit.

the kits usually contain pulleys and valve springs - they might not be doing them as kits. the kits are nearer a grand - the valve springs are usually upgraded. nothing to stop you fitting the cams and if i remember when i looked at them there is a dyno run print out on the piper cams website. i think they would make a big difference if what piper claims is fact.......

Im tempted---the extra horses and torque will keep our t-sport up to date with modern hothatch such as golf gti and cooper s

Don't know they are out for a year already! I will go for it if they do a proper kit! Not sure the standard valve and springs are designed for this. Saying this, our vvtli engine do run a high lift camshaft when we hit 6200rpm---may be this not an issue for our cars.

I think the biggest question is can our ECU adapt without triggering the dreaded yellow light on our dash!

Otherwise the lumpy idling and inc fuel consumption maybe the only drawback!

It would be great to see a car that has had this work done especially if it went on the dyno. I doubt i will be having it done though as the total cost would be more i would want to pay.

The total cost means you may aswell buy a compressor which would still have more torque and power.

i dont think you will get lumpy idle thats normally associated with fast road/race cams where the have nothing til top end of revs. these seem to add more low down - fuel consumption will rise i reckon although if you have a bit more low down you might not use lift as much. wont be a problem with the valves and normally when you change your cams you increase what the engine can rev to so i presume thats why a lot of them come as kits? the springs on ours will be an uprated item so maybe thats why they aint doing kits. i have scoring on my cams - gonna look into it before me warranty is gone. my wish list is getting to long!! promised myself to do a few more things to me car - i hope she dont want to go on holiday! cant understand you havin probs with cooper s and there's nothing in it with the golf. if you cant fit them yourself it would only be 1 - 2 hours labour, so £100 tops for fitting. i couldnt get a compressor for my car plus £600 :g: - if you could we would all have em!

common prob on t sport? never seen it on any of me other cars - and they got a lot more miles on. can only be a few causes - lack of oil between the surfaces or metal in the oil. makes sense that - you used to buy and new car a it would get serviced within the first month, for obvious reasons. most surprised this doesnt happen anymore - **** company cars! i'll try see me mate next week and show him the cams - he's always got good advice when i get stuck.

with these cams, a decent exhaust, stainless exhaust manifold, typhoon i would be suprised if t sport aint on par with compressor

cams £600 ?

typhoon £200

exhaust manifold £600

exhaust £400 ?

the gains from £1800 would be fairly decent in my opinion.

Email pipercam regarding my concern which I brought up in this forum---got no reply after 2 days!

Doesn't give me much confidence fitting these cams. If things go wrong don't think this company will be interested!

Going to Demon Tweeks this saturday to have my Bilstein B8+TTE springs fitted. Welcome any member from Wales to pop in to chat---cause Im going to be bored sitting in that waiting room!

Will post pictures before and after for those who want to lower their cars!
