Wheel Alignment

hi guys, first post (other than the welcome one!),

when i get the tracking done on my 2005 T-Spirit D4D, should i be getting 4 wheel alignment or 2 wheel alignment?

reason i ask is, i got it done yesterday and the guy mentioned it was 2 wheel alignment (i dont know wether he was referring to what i need or what they can only do) and afterward the steering wheel was about 1/4 of a turn to the right!

when i went back they couldnt believe how much it was out, and done it again to realise that when they were tightening up the bolts or something, the steering wheel was jumping, so the held it in place manually and re tightened everything but it is still about 1/8 of a turn to the right when going straight.

how do i sort this?

is it because it was done on a 2 wheel alignment machine or something else?

thanks.

They should lock the steering wheel in the correct position and then adjust. You've got muppets doing it.

seemly the locking bar kept slipping or else they were taking it off too early

he told me if it still isint right come back and he will refund me, think i may be doing just that!

thanks.

I've yet to have a car come back from front wheel alignment with the steering wheel straight - there's always some excuse like "That's as close as we can get it" . This happens despite warning them to get it straight.

Your man probably means by 4 wheel tracking that they use rear wheels to mount Lazer equipment to carry out your tracking adjustment?

That's presuming it's being done by Lazer?

If tyre shop are doing it properly they should have as pointed out in previous postings steering wheel locked solid in straight ahead position & front wheels up on rotating plates. The front tracking equipment that picks up Lazer should then be placed on front wheels.

Only then should tracking be carried out.

If they are using the older (Not lazer. By pointer & mirror) system that is placed against front wheels & then adjusted it's only realy good for older vans & lorries that have one single track arm across width of vehicle.

With lazer, if done right you should not be having any problems with steering wheel alignment.

thats exactly what was done man, i think i will just go back to them and get them to have another go at it and see if they can get it any better.

thanks.
