98 Avensis Gs Td Starter Motor Probs

hi all, newbie on here, my moms having problems with her avensis, starter motor packed up last week, had a new one fitted and its making a noise, some ones looked at it and said there should be a spacer plate between the starter motor and the housing , is this right? if so where the hell can i get one?

I would look at the solonid sticking..

spacers can be installed.

You can put some washers in.. as a temp fix.

cheers for that, its a new solonoid too so think it must be spacing problem

will try washers for now see if it solves it

well it strted to get tempremental as to when it wud start the car

then it just stopped completley so had arefurbed one fitted and it worked but made a terrible noise when starting, so took it back and they gave us our original one back refurbished

still makes a noise? person that fitted it first of all said "where is the spacer plate?"

I think

1) you need to grease the solonid

OR..

you may have a faulty ignition switch.

(it the key is being kept at the start too long)

as for the ignition switch, there is a push button used to start it once the ignition is on?

PiMp avensis,

try spacers.. (but geuine parts are plug and play..

otherwise look else where

its annoying me now lol, it is actually a genuine part, just refurbished thats why i dnt understand the need for a spacer?

Maybe you can have alook at the push start swtich and clean it
