HI GUYS

I need some help?? the engine management light on my 51 plate celica has recently come on. it has come on and off a few times now and has the fault code P1346..., i believe this is the cam position sensor

Is there a way of checking the sensor as i cant find it under the bonnet and if it needs replacing how expensive is it and how easy is it to do??

cheers

hmm, dont know where it is, if the sensors playing up... u'll have to change it, dont have a clue how much it'll cost, u could try main dealers, but if u find them to be a bit steep, then try toyota celica breakers on 01579 383879 or google, type in 24/7 repairs, and they'll search for the parts with various parts places.

there are also some manuals lurking around on here they should be hard to find.....

good luck, hope u get it sorted..and sorry couldnt be much help

It's a total piece of the proverbial to do.

1. Take off the plastic head cover

2. As you're looking at the engine under the bonnet you'll see a black sensor plugged into the cylinder head at the transmission end of the cylinder head between the throttle body and the main tank of the intake manifold.

It's held in by a single M6/10mm socket bolt.

3. Disconnect the wire loom from it, take the bolt out and you'll be able to pull the sensor free (with a couple of twists maybe).

4. Replacing the sensor is just the opposite

If a complete novice can't take it out in 5 minutes take the spanner off them because they don't know how it works and they'll probably end up sticking it in their ear by mistake :)

SPOKE TO SOON GUYS!!! IT LASTED ABOUT 200 MILES THEN SURE AS ANYTHING THE STUPID LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON... GETTING REALLY SICK OF IT AND DONT REALLY NO WHAT TO DO??? THE FAULT CODE IS P1346.... WHICH I BELIEVED WAS CAM SENSOR HOWEVER AS I HAVE CHANGED THIS... IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ELSE I CAN CHECK TO TRY AND FIX IT AS I AM REALLY HESITANT ABOUT GOING TO A GARAGE AS THEY WILL JUST RIP ME OFF AND PROB NOT EVEN FIX IT?

IVE HEARD IT COULD BE THE ACTUAL VVT- CONTROLLER IS THERE ANYTHING I COULD DO TO CHECK THAT WITHOUT STRIPPING THE ENGINE

ANY ADVICE IS WELCOMED CHEERS!!!!
