I am thinking of having the Toyota Alarm that is an accessory for the Aygo fitted to try to deter the more casual thieves(I know it doesn't deter the determined ones).

Does anyone have any experience with their dealers fitting the alarm?

Any problems with the fitting?

Does the alarm work well?

I have looked on the AIM and it looks a very involved process with a lot of electrical work and trim/dash removal. It has me worried.

My local dealership quoted £230-is this a fair price?

Hi Ullevi

I just picked up my Aygo 2 weeks ago, and got Mr T to fit the Toyota alarm for the same reasons as yourself, haggled a 10% discount, it fited in fine only thing you see is the two sensors on the pillars. very loud when it goes off sounds with the car horn as well.

Bad things are the alarm disables the key mounted immobliser and you get another quite large fob to carry this sounds the alarm and immoblises the car etc.

when you get in, close the doors, start the car it locks all the doors, sounds good but can be a pain having lived with this for a couple of weeks, having read the book this function can be reversed by the dealer.

By and large I thought it was worth it just to avoid the hassle of fittting a cat 1 alarm to a new car.

that choice has to be yours though.

i had an alarm fitted but not through the dealer although i used the same company which would've done it through the dealer and it cost £300

It's a Viper alarm the key fob is a bit bigger than a 50p. It doesn't lock the doors when you start your motor.

Also the blue LED matched my aygo blue trim .

Thanks for the answers so far!

Airman, yes,I can see it becoming rather waring if the doors lock each time you start the car.Having said that, automatic door lock is a security feature I've seen in rather more expensive cars!At least you can remove this feature if it really annoys.

The fact that it stops the original immobilizer from working is a bit of a worry.Good that it is a loud system though, not that anyone pays attention these days LOL.At least I'll hear it if it goes off outside the house.

James, your Viper Alarm seems good, nice to see an LED as a deterrent.Even better if its blue!(Our Aygo is a Blue as well!)

Thanks for your replies.

In the end I have decided to go with the official Toyota accessory alarm.I asked at my supplying dealership and they said they could fit it no problems(I hope!).Anyway,it is booked in tomorrow, and the price is what they quoted before £230.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your input Bad Boy.

I took it into my local Toyota dealership last Thursday,so they've had it 4 working days and they are having problems.

They fitted the Toyota alarm, but cannot get the central locking to work now! They have a wire or two that they don't know where to put. They say the are trying to contact Toyota in Europe to work it out.

They even asked for details of people on the forum who had the toyota alarm successfully fitted!!!(thanks Airman for those details-they phoned Inchcape toyota but the guy that fitted your alarm is not there this week,so they say!).

They said this was the first alarm they had fitted on an Aygo, surely they have exact instructions in the Accessory Installation Manuals which even we can access through this forum.

I wish I had taken it to a proper Alarm Fitter now, like some of you have-you seem to have had excellent results.

I don't know what to do,should I give them til the end of the week then if they still haven't sorted it ask them to put the car back together again and forget about fitting the alarm?

I am really fed up with this :censor:

I'd give them till monday and then ask for your car back.

Then go to a local alarm fitter.

They should know what they are doing they work with these cars and show have the Aim manual.

The company i went to had only done 1 Aygo since they hadbeen going and the first 08 reg they'd done and they managed to do it brilliantly.

keep us posted and Good luck

I would assume the Toyota alarm is the same as every other alarm and so that means a connection to the locking system, ignition, door switches, sensors and power. Not too hard for someone technically minded. I didn't install mine personally because I wanted it insurance approved although I did keep a rough eye on what the guy was doing (without cramping him).

Also another thing to remember is, when installing an alarm the boot door has no switch (for lights etc..) therefore for my alarm to sense the boot opening I have a read switch

This is possibly something to suggest should your alarm fitter be a bit stumped.

Fabricating a bracket for a regular switch would probably be ugly and big and possibly stick out further than the lip of the boot so using a read switch for this is perfect.

Just to let you all know that I got the car back yesterday-That is 6 days after leaving it with them.

All seems to be working well, but my confidence in this dealership has been seriously knocked.

They did give me 10% discount though for all the hastle, fair dues.

It's only done 900 miles,so by the time the first service comes up,I'll have to think long and hard about where I get it serviced.

I'll keep you posted if it goes wrong!
