Hi there,

at the moment i have a yaris but REALLY want to buy a corolla t sport. is it worth spending the extra money on a compressor or are the normal CTS good enough. i wouldn't leave toyota now after the reliability of my yaris! can anyone advise on which to get and what mods you can get for the t sport/SR.

many thanks everyone

Depends what you're after.

The Compressor is a good car but it's not without a number of issues and is depreciating at a rapid rate!!

I went from a 1.0 Yaris into a CTS and have not regretted it one bit!

The standard CTS seems a good compromise between power and fuel economy compared to the Compressor.

A few careful mods will push the CTS over the 200bhp mark i.e. TTE Back Box and induction.

I'd recommend you get one, once you've had 'Lift' there's no going back!!

I got my T Sport just before the face lift version came out and wish I waited. :ffs:

Then I considered the compressor when that came out but it didn't seem worth it. After reading some of the posts on here I should have gone for the compressor at the time, if I had the face lift CTS I probably wouldn't have even considered it.

I would go for the CTS face lift version even now, not many compressors out there so price would be a major factor. Also, the lift comes in more aggressively with the CTS which makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention.

You have to fill up with 97 ron petrol on the compressor so running costs are higher, the mpg is less on the compressor.

Don't know about the insurance group on the compressor

Whatever you decide you will never get over that lift feeling

No its not a massive, or noticable difference in the real world.

In gear unless your flat out its not that much different - bit quicker yes but not massivly unless your really caining it.

It is a different driving experience, you dont notice the lift and you get more low down go. But in the wet its not got enough grip, traction control came on too much, the lift is enjoyable and it drinks fuel, enough to remove the trip computer.

Plus even the toyota mehcanics told me because its supercharged they would expect problems around 80k miles.

Dirt cheap now though, 19k new was quite steep.

v.loud on m-way too. :(

Of course it's a noticeable difference. If you dont think it is you must be driving 2 tsport n/a's

 You can turn TC off. All the cars in it's league (lcr, ctr, gti) burn the same if not more. If you want the power you have to pay.

You mean just like the n/a?

I dont think people are giving the Compressor enough credit. at 19k it was too expensive but you can get a 55 56 plate with less thank 10k miles for less than 12k, the price well outweighs the downfalls.

GET A COMPRESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!! sound awsome, go well, an the best bit is not a lot of people know wot they are so you don't half surprise people when you have them off at the lights lol.

but yes fuel economy isn't the best but for a car with 215bhp you can't expect it too be good, still better on fuel than me mates scooby with same power

i think there is quite a big difference in power between normal t sport an compressor, sometimes when engine cold an you drive off straight away, supercharger doesn't engage straight away, nearly snapped my neck few times when accelerating in 2nd then the charger kicks in ha ha!!!!

i didnt mean to give it a bad review but the whine, the power was fun for a while but after time the t-sport is as much fun.

Driving is all about fun for me and if i can have as much fun in a normal TS over the compressor than thats all that matters.

But its still a great car, it just wasn't LOADS better than the already very good / fun TS. Its a bargain now.

If i was spending the money again tho, i think theres nice type-r's / old RS or new ST, old supra, even older impreza WRX i would get. By my money would be on a Mazda 3 MPS personally. Low key but f-in quick!

At 6,200rpm the second cam kicks in, this is what we refer to as 'lift'

The easiest way to describe it is a bit like a turbo kicking in, there's a sudden surge of power that'll have you grinning like a loon!! :D

The benefit being you dont have to use the additional cam if you dont want, unlike a turbo thats in use all the time, you can pick and choose when you want lift once the engine has warmed up. Again a benefit as you cant hit lift with a cold engine, thus preventing damage as the oil hasn't circulated and warmed up.

Just note this if you test drive one, i.e if lift doesnt work with a warm engine its knackered.

I recently upgraded my Yaris TS to the Corolla TS and I am loving the LIFT and the comfort of the CTS!!

Mine is a 53plate CTS, lowered (Orginial from Toyota) thinking of getting a induction kit soon !!!

cheers for that mate.

i am going to be looking around for a cts soon so hopefully i will enjoy the feeling of lift for myself. while i'm here i have a set of 16" genuine T-sport wheels with tyres if you know anyone that wants/needs any. the wheels are in perfect condition but 1 of the tyres need changing.

PM me for pics and details

Basically I have a TS and my bro has a Compressor. There's nothing in it really performance-wise. I can keep up with him upto a tonne ten when he leaves me. He only gets away slightly when im out of the lift. As soon as it kicks in Im behind him again! Must admit though his looks so much nicer than mine, and with a K & N on it sounds awesome!!!! He only uses Shell V Power in his though so a damn sight more expensive to run...

I'm sorry but that is absolute crap!

Your brother must be rubbish at driving, or his car isn't running very well.

I've driven both, the Compressor performs much better than the normal CTS, lift or not. You hit 60 in about 6.7 compared to 8.1. Also, the Compressor's power provides more-usable performance throught rev range. The lift is fun but if you miss it it's easy to get bogged down.

Spend the extra, get a Compressor! (and it does look good)

Onk, everyone knows that the TS 0-60 is less than the published 8 second time, granted the Compressor has 14% more power and the SC gives more torque improving driveability, but the difference can't be huge out on the road. Parkers also show the Compressor weighing either 95 or 140Kgs more than the CTS, it must be those twin pipes :)

If the Compressor suits your needs then go for it. I would go for the compressor any day but its only worth it if you can keep up the costs ie fuel and maint which is why I didnt. Im happy with my face lift TS you get the best of both worlds also with a few mods, 200+ HP easy.

Cheers

Heran
