Smoke When Boosting

Sometimes when i put my foot down, i can see a slight dust in the air, (not blue or white smoke) possibly a fine black dust, i can especially see it when at night and the car headlights behind show this dust/smoke up in the lights. As i say, only when heavy boosting.

Any ideas guys?? Is it just carbon dust?

Could it be running rich and needs a tune??

Any way to find out for sure what the problem is?

Smoke when boosting is a sign of the turbo on its way out but that tends to b blue. and it tends to be the seals, what it the petrol like in it? 40 miles to a 10er or so?

could be running rich. does it sound fine?

mite be worth havin a look at the turbo tho, u dont want it fallin to bits and gettin thrown into the engine. check for play in the shaft but no way of tellin about the seals unless u take it off as far as i know

Thanks led-gt4

Im getting, to a full tank, £50 (which costs more all the time) 27-28mpg consistantly. Was told by Mr. T last year that the turbo to manifold gasket has a very slight leak. Could that cause it? The car sounds fine, no wierd noises etc. When i clean the car, there is always quite a bit of carbon on the s/s backbox etc.

Im getting the car tuned possible re-map in the next coulpe of months, would they be able to tell if there is a problem when they do that??

yea on the rolling road they will be able to tell u if its ruinning rich. mine always has loads of carbon too but doesnt run rich. dont know that the gasket would have any thing to do with it but i would get this replaced before the remap! the mpg is sound so i doubt its over fueling. what about oil? u need to top it up all the time? does it use much? do u have a de cat pipe on it?

i get an oil change every 6000 miles and filter etc, only twice in the last year have i had to top the oil up, and only a small amount mate, she is pretty good for that, no oil leak when i check pavement where i have been parked, although the other day, i noticed ONE drip at the oil sump i think... Could it just be carbon then led-gt4?

just overfueling dude dont worry. the GT4 runs rich on boost as std and thats the smoke you can see (black)

if the car gives off lots of whiteish blue smoke when its been idling for 10 mins or so then thats turbo oil seals.
