where would you fit them? only place i could see to put them would be blanking the compartment in the centre console. have you seen any gauges's that would go with the interior? i've been looking for facelift instrument cluster and some dials to match would look good - especially if you could get some mini t sport decals on the dial background to match the instruments. i'm not keen on pods but that would be a bit easier. i'm away to look in some catalogueas now - i'm taxin yer idea!!

I'm surprised that a car on which the performance depends so much on oil temperature and oil pressure does not have the gauges as standard

Although I read the following on a web page after googling:

"Note. The engine management system ECM will only energise the VVTL - i oil control valve when the water temperature is above 60 degrees C. Below 60 degrees C, the engine management system ECM will keep the additional VVTL - i oil control valve de-energised.

Once the water temperature is above 60 degrees C, as the engine speed increases to over 6000 RPM the engine management system ECM will supply a signal to energise the VVTL - i oil control valve. This locks the pad on the rocker arm, causing the high speed cam profile to push downwards onto the valves."

So it seems that just monitoring the water temp would be enough ?

DEFI do a din sized 3 gauge set consisting of oil temp & presure and another one unsure if it is boost or water temp.

however they can be bought in black or white dials.

i was going to get a set for the compressor and sacrifice the double din that the cd player currently sits in (if this really is double din)

i'm not to keen on dials below the stereo but it would make things simple - but you would have to get new stereo although makes it easy to revert back when its time to sell. i seen some last night but was in an old catalogue - 2004!

i would have liked to put them down the A pilar but got the problem of the curtain air bag, i don't think havin an oil temp gauge after crashin would be a good look ha ha!!!! plannin on replacing stero anyway so could be worth a look at that havin them below the stero.

  • 4 months later...

Has anyone fitted extra oil temp and pressure gauges?

Can anyone give tips on make/model and how to fit?

I'd love to fit these extra gauges as I think it would help look after engine if you know how oil is performing!

If they make car look a bit sportier as well then its all good!
