hi all got a 1990 st185 attached a boost controller what i need to know is when does this car hit boost cut (fuel cut) as i'm getting funny reading's from 3 seperate boost guages the car doesn't seem to pull like the other turbo cars i have owned i seem to be able to get it upto about 9 PSI

thats fine for several days then the car will go into "limp mode" i do the usual disconnect the Battery to reset the computer any idea's thinking of selling as this car is really lacking in performance as opposed to other cars i've owned and driven (240z,skyline,rx7)

skylines and rx7s have a good bit more power than a st185 mate. but as said before check for error codes as there are a number of errors that cause the gt four to run in safe mode. it could b 1 of these and once u sort it u will need to reset the ecu by taken out the fuse for about 10 mins and then it will take a while for the ecu to learn again (it will run rich for a while after the ecu has been reset)

i had a very similar problem a number of wks ago.

i beleve standard the st185 should be hitting around 0.7bar which is 10 psi, that is what i am currently running after fixing my problem.

however my car only use to get upto about 6psi which was really low and when i fitted a boost controller i got to about 9psi then i had ecu lights galore, engine cut out the lot. i removed the boost controller and set about fault finding starting with the error codes, i got two codes up that i just cleared. i then looked at boost lines for leaks it was then to my horror when removing the intercooler i noticed the sock that bolts to the inlet manifold that you slide the intercooler into had a split up rite round it (BOOST LEAK NUMBER 1) then the dumpvalve was not welded into the intercooler properly (BOOST LEAK NUMBER 2) then the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler was split slightly. (BOOST LEAK NUMBER 3)

cost me around £50 for all these parts i havnt fitted my boost controller back on yet but i read on my gauge at just under 10 psi happy days

not sure if any of this helps like but this is what happend to me
