Have you considered buying an accident damaged car? I bought back our Corolla for about £150 after it was written off and it was mint (apart from the big dent in the boot that wrote it off of course - but the engine was perfect). Typically insurers sell them back at about 10% of their undamaged value, so that's a few hundred quid at most for almost anything with a 7A-FE in it. You can make a few quid on the bits you don't need too.

if you look on raw2k's website (online auction that sells cat c's and d's) you should find a celica st or corolla gxi etc.

they useually advertise on exchangeandmart.co.uk also, you might find it is easier to find stuff on there as the raw2k website is a bit kack

altenatively i have a corolla gxi for breaking which has a 7a-fe in it, only problem is that there is 100k on it, but at least you know it works

The car is in loughborough, leicestershire, after driving it today, the bottom end sounds a little worn but the head is fine. Your more than welcome to come and have a look
