Uplift.. Help!

hi guys,

Question about the uptake/lift: does the engine have to be warm before it fully uses uptake?

When i start my car up after it has been sat overnight, and drive off straight away i notice that when i lift the revs past 6.2 (or whatever it is) my uplift dosent kick in , and it feels a bit flat. however, when it has warmed up a bit it goes back into "beast" mode and the uplift works fine. is this normal?

im also worried that if this is normal, then am i **** the engine up by trying to kick the uplift in too early, e.g. before it is warm enough?

any advice would be great, im a bit naive about this stuff, but i love my car so its kinda important!!

cheers guys,

mark

i never take mine past 3k until its reached full operating temp, lift wont engage until this is reached. i think you'll be wearing things out a bit premature if you rev before warm.

take it easy until warm

Is no-one taught to treat cars delicately when they're cold?

I wouldn't even dream of going for lift unless the engine temp had been in the middle for a few minutes!

am i right in thinking that with most cars your not supposed to full throttle it until the engine is running at optimum temperature.

The first one I test drove, they knew I was coming, so had left it warming up for when I arrived - B)

waldo:

Yes - avoid heavy throttle and high revs.

where you not suspicious of a pre-warmed car?

Not really - it was a main dealer and I assumed they had let it warm up so that lift worked.

But I wasn't planning to buy it anyway, so didn't pay much attention to the particulars. Can't even remember the age/mileage/colour!
