Speedo Help Needed

hi everyone.we need some help with a problem on our 2001 rav.when we got in the car tonite to drive home the speedo had stopped working.all the other guages were ok and the car ran fine.there were no error codes on the dash.has anyone any ideas.it was ok this morning.

It is most likely an intermittant fault with the speedo impulse sensor, an electrical sensor in the gearbox. You could try making sure the connections are OK but there is not a lot you can do with the switch itself. There are a couple of different types fitted, between £135 and £155 plus VAT

check for water ingress into a large multiblock in OSF (I Think) kick panel, It doesnt take much and was a known issue leaking from sunroof

Its down towards the back of the gearbox near where the drive shafts come out from the diff. This happens quite a lot - pull the plug off and squirt it with WD40.

Did you see Watchdog tonight.... The Ford Focus has a similar issue...Seems dodgy circuit boards...and the fix...............WD40 spayed on back.......

This fluid has amazing healing powers.......

Under the bonnet towards the back. Its a fiddle but you can do it. The arrows show the plug and the approx location of the sensor;

If you are 7'5" tall, and weigh 7st6lbs, you'll be able to do it in 5 minutes. :lol:

we used to get them inside the car in the foot well behind the kick trim on O/S

Large multi block with green stuff effecting the connection due to water

thanks for all the help.the diagram was really helpful.i pulled out the gearbox sensor plug.refitted it and worked a treat.once again cheers.
