Hi mabozar, Frankly i find this post very sad, ithink most of us are feeling it one way or another at the moment with fuel and everything else spiraling out of control, if you are happy with the car in every other way it seems a shame to have to sell it because of road tax, are there any other issues with it? and are you sure that £300 is the right figure someone on here posted the new increases i will have alook for them.. :thumbsup:

I looked in an archive that suggests the CO2 is 190;

http://www.toyota.co.uk/vs2/oldpdf/04/RV3_93_spec.pdf

I reckon the duty will be £260;

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/B...t2008/DG_073093

Unless you are considering doing without a car altogether it does seem a shame.

Regards

You can get free road fund tax if you are disabled and need care and attention and a minder - so that you get full rate mobility allowance. Then you get the free road tax. I can arrange for you to suffer a mental breakdown if you like and a couple of badly broken legs - just borrow my landrover for a month!!

In answer to your question its always better to sell it privately. You will get more money for it and be in a stronger position to negotiate a discount on something else if you decide to buy something smaller. Maybe you qualify for some of the assistance that bothy has mentioned?

Someone else might give you guidance on how much it is worth.

All the best mate ;)

I dont qualify for any help with anything as bothy mentioned I`ve sitting thinking of it I thought %$( it it`s a cracking motor ,the other half is going mad at me,so the bottom line is it`s not going anywhere,thanks for your guidance everbody a wee car would do me no justice as I`m 6f 1ins and 15 st. my ins and road tax is due in may.if I go through a cashback site I could get £100 off my insurance[quidco]

Just paid £6k for my VX 5 dr petrol 51 plate (reg 2002) with 60k miles, depends on mileage really

mines is a 2.0 GX TD 5 door 51 plate the mileage is about 58000,if I insure it for £6000 or is that too much?

Keeping or selling a car due to road tax increases to me is a false economy, lets do the maths on this, if you sell the car and part exchange it you will loose £1000's of pounds on what it cost you to buy ,yet keeping the Rav4 and spending out an extra 100 a year on road tax seems an absolute bargain :) , so it spend and extra £100 a year or loose a good couple of grand selling her , plus what you'll add to buy the next car .

Especially if you like the car and it has been reliable - any second hand car is a unknown quantity and £100 extra road tax may be a drop in the ocean compared to what you might encounter

Hi mate glad to hear you have decided to keep your Rav :thumbsup: notice you say you hardly use it, if you tell your insurance and limit the mileage they may give you a discount also use one of the comparison sites and get the cheapest quote, Good luck :yes:

it`s not just wasnt the 100 quid it was the fact that we hardly ever used it and thought a smaller vehicle would be better but as I`ve posted before I am keeping it I did the finances spoke to my other half and thats the ba` burst ;)
