Downsizing From An Avensis To A Yaris - Opinions Please

Hi, I'm giving serious thought to downsizing from a 2.0 Litre Avensis to a 1.3 Yaris TR - the main reason is I'm looking to save a bit of money hopefully, mostly in fuel but also insurance, tax, etc. I've read mixed reviews of the Yaris, mostly going on about its dullness but the consensus seems to be that the 1.3 petrol is the one to go for. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Andy.

Make sure you give it a good 24 hour test drive its a big drop in size and you have have to decide whether you can live with it .

It also depends on the type of motoring you do and the way you drive

I had to downsize from a 2.1HD Xantia to a 1.3 Yaris auto(legs stopped working!!)Was a bit dubious at first but found the Yaris just as comfortable on long runs,a bit bumpy on local roads.I do lots of long distance m-way runs-320miles-and am quite pleased with all-round comfort.Avge 43-45mpg on m-way,37ish round town, would have a diesel for better consumption but can't get one with auto transmission.Unfortunately have to swap this month, motability contract, and need more accessible load space so am getting a Kangoo.

ive driven an Xreg 1.8 Avensis estate, and to be honest it felt similar to drive, same sort of layout and controlls

If you do mainly town driving you should be fine and it will save you money. I have a 2006 Yaris D4D and it is cheap to run but it is not refined on the motorway and is badly affected by crosswinds. Additionally, the fuel consumption at motorway speeds is poor compared to about town use.

The 1.3 petrol handles the car a lot better than the 1.0 does. It's the same 1.0 3-cylinder engine I have in my Aygo, which is fine in the Aygo as it's small and light but the Yaris is much bigger and fairly heavy - I found the 1.0 Yaris struggled with the lack of power versus the weight of the car.

The 1.3 was a definite improvement though.

The great thing about the 1.0 is you can thrash it and it loves it!! I never find it struggles for power as I just keep it in high revs when I need power.
