Kingo says that the extended warranty is very good (isn't he paid to say that... )

It's like most things in life, if you pay into it and nothing breaks then you deem it poor value. If something major goes wrong, then you'll get your investment back.

Whether you think it's good value is a decision you'll have to make I'm afraid.

Extended Warranties are piece of mind insurance. And like all insurance, if you don't use it, then it is a waste of money, if you do, then it was money well spent - and you will never know until after the insurance has run its term (hindsight is great!)

I had an Honda HR-V - and just like a Toyota, you don't expect Honda to go wrong - shortly before I sold it, I ended up spending about £400 on repairs that would have been covered by an extended warranty.

On the RAV4, I bought it at just over 1 year old and added in another 2 years warranty for extra piece of mind :) and once it gets to 5 years old, I am considering adding in another 2 years - I see dropping cash on a warranty for piece of mind motoring as a much cheaper alternative to dropping cash on a new car for piece of mind motoring.

If you have done 70k and are racking up quite a few miles still then a warranty is - IMO - a good idea. The Toyota one also comes with full RAC cover including HomeStart (very handy if you got a Battery like mine  )

You said an extra £21 a month? looking at the prices I got with my warranty that seems cheap, not pricey - assuming it is Toyota Warranty?

for your RAV4, the official prices (01/07) are:

1 year unlimited miles: £485

1 year 10,000 miles: £450

2 years unlimited miles: £735

2 years 20,000 miles: £680

So the very cheapest per-month figure comes out at £28ish for the above set - you sure it was £21 a month you were quoted for a Toyota warranty?

Hoovie -I thought everyone got 3 years from the date of first registration -so if you buy secondhand you only have to think about the EW after three years are up?

yes, you are quite correct - I guess I should have said an addtional 2 years - to give me a couple a months short of 4 years cover. Dunno why I decided to take it out at sale time - maybe so it was done and out the way?
