Technical Gen6 Questions

HI All

Own a 99 GEN 6 with the rev3 3SGE ensinge.

Please excuse my lack of correct terminology but I'm learning.....

1 .On the top end block (inlet manifold?) the one thats sat at the highest point near the firewall, raised above the HT leads....... there is an adjustment screw any ideas what this is used for?

2. Are my disc warped/need replacing - I get steering vibration Only when I press the brakes at varying sppeds, slower town driving not so noticable but anything over 60 on motorways is relatively violent.

BTW car just passed MOT....

Please ask and I can explain more clearer if the discription isnt clear.

Dont know about the screw on the manifold but I would not be tampering with it.

It sounds as though you need brake discs but if it has just passed an MOT they would have probably picked that up, but the same goes for anything wrong with steering or bushes. Get the front wheels balanced if it persists go with the discs.

Thanks, the discs are usually not checked in MOT with the exception of braking force.

The car was stood around for some time and MOT station pointed out pads were half way done! I enquired about busing and track rod ends but hey said we usually need to do a road test to highlight these types of issues (makes sense)

The screw is literally near the bulk head, just above the distributer if looking directly infront of car.....?

Thanks

brake discs will ( expand ) warp as they heat up , a cold disc would pass a mot in my opinion.

the screw is for the flux capacitor , its normally factory set . no need to fiddle with it.

Ill try and post a pic later today, its part of a mechanical arm (control) adjoined to the right hand sie of the bulkhead.

I think a pic will help identify.

I've arranged for my local mechanic to check out the busing and suspension today.

dont let your local play with that screw , it will draw in too much power from passing cars exhausts emisions and can lead to cylinder head problems.

HI

Whats the flux capacitor, googled it but nothing related to engine components.

Just curious now, but will ensure local dosn't tinker!

TIA

Ok I think ive sussed out what the screw is for, it's bolted onto the TVIS air intake chamber and is a control arm adjsutment for either the air control valve or acutator positioned at end of arm.

See pic attached and following link.

Ultimately im paranoid about this and need to know if Toyota will adjust this if it was tampered with at some point and or how to guage if it has?

Many Thanks.

put a small paint mark on the screw head and another opposite , if they dont line up when u get car back its been moved, i wont worry too much , moving the screw does little to how the car performs anyways. ;)

Yes the disks are not checked as part of an mot, in that they are not specifically checked or measured for minimum thickness, but if they were warped this will be picked up. I have had an advisory on this issue with the mot station picking up a warp that I could not tell by pedal use.
