Curren St206 3s-ge Water Temp Off The Scale!

hi,

my curren st206 with 3sge engine water temp guage went off the scale before i noticed it getting too high. the heater has stopped passing warm air too.

i checked the coolant level and found it below the minimum indicator. the car is regularly used and this fault occured very quickly.

i topped up the coolant, restarted the car and held engine rpm at 3k. the engine temp rose again to a stupid level and the radiator fan did not kick in. i also heard a faint whine from the area below the alternator.

i suspect the water pump has packed in but would like advice. it may be worthy to note the coolant has never been changed in 7 years and 66k miles of ownership.

I'd look into changing the thermostat. If that doesn't work then start thinking about the pump.

I'm not saying i'm a pro, but thats what i'd do.
