Chips With Everything

Had my 2008 Rav for a couple of months now. Love it however what a car to suffer chipped paintwork. Seems I have to touch up the !Removed! thing up after every journey! Should I have waited a few months for the paint to harden before driving it? lol.

Try to avoid overhanging Brambles; Galashiels; and the newly stoned roads that are happening just now as Amey and Atkins spend new found wealth by spraying roads with black diesel then scattering chukkies on top. You could try certain routes in Lanarkshire near me, where they chuck stones through the windows from boredom.

Or invest in a bonnet cover in horsehide.

Just had my windscreen replaced to be hit by a flying stone from a passing lorry - thankfully no sign of any damage. You could try what I had - 6 massive Cibies mounted on a bullbar up front....kept most of the chips away!! Lights off now due to bullbar needing replaced, so I added some polish to the car - 1st time in years!! The paintwork really needs T-cut slightly, but as I'm going to use the car to race, seems unnecessary. RAV number 2 has nice paintwork apart from couple of scores which I'll get fixed.

Get the number 1 lightweight alloys this week for the sprints - but will use 2nd hand tyres as it knocks the tyres to ^#*}! The new straight back box is getting fitted Tuesday now, so might have time to get rusty back step off and get one made up.

What about getting handles fitted on the front bonnet and paying someone to lay spread-eagled across bonnet to save paintwork damage?? If the polis stop you, just tell them yer daein yer bit fur the environment tae save hedgehogs, by employing a hedgehog spotter.

I like the handles idea. Don't fancy drillin holes in bonnet, however i do have some vacuum mounted carriers for fishing rods and they stick like sh*t to a blanket!

Will now ring roond mates to see who's up for a bit o low level wing walkin :D

Are you all barking mad up there?

Mine seemed to gather a few chips at first but then stabilised. I can only think that maybe I inspected it more when it was new. I don't know if these modern non solvent paints are a bit more vulnerable/chipable but it never ceases to amaze me how flexible it is - you can flex one of the bumpers or other plastic parts as much as you can and it doesn't crack.

I suppose the other factor is that the bonnet on these 4.3s is so vast so it presents an easy target to a flying stone.

I haven't noticed any stone chips on mine yet, but I have managed to scratch it with the ignition key - inside and out. Why have an ignition key shaped like a small dagger (and nearly as sharp)?

Apart from that the car is great.

Well Bothy, tried your suggestion however this terrible squealing noise developed, worse than a dodgy set o brake pads!
