And now my thoughts...

Edited.jpg

I needed to mount the faceplate first, so I knew where to place the stereo and drill the holes. This is marked by the circle. Using two nuts and bolts, I used an existing hole in the brackets, and the holes in my audioleads faceplate to put the lot together.

I then slotted the stereo in, and using a little bit of maths and measuring and then nothing more than guess work and line of sight, drew lines on the horizontal and vertical axis so they crossed the places where I wanted to mount the stereo. The point where these lines crossed then make the hole positions. You'll noticed there are more holes than there should be, thats some of the original holes, and cos I put my stereo in upside down to start off with - something to look out for!

The other thing to look out for, and something I missed (and have just corrected), make sure all the lines are level - stereo, virtical lines on the face plate, and mounting brackets, and make sure your stereo is in to the faceplate as far as it will go at all times. If you don't, you end up with your stereo mounted a bit wonkily (see pic - this is prior to fixing it!) - easily fixed by expanding your drill holes a little, but its !Removed! annoying!!

Hope that helps!

Lovely stuff, cheers DefiantFrog. At the risk of sounding thick (I'm not too up on my DIY), how big are the holes you drilled in your brackets? 5mm?

At the risk of replying with a condescending answer - slightly bigger than the screws! ;)

I don't know I'm afraid, and my dash is all back together again now. I'll guess the screws are about 3 - 4mm. But the holes are bigger, as I had to adjust them slightly cos I got things a bit wonky! Just as long as they aren't as big as the screw head, it'll all be good! :)
