Corolla's High Insurance Group

Why is the Corolla such a high insurance group, i.e. 10? I would expect a car like this to be around 4

Which version.

IIRC the insurance group varies from about 3 or 4 up to 15 or 16 for the compressor.

Which one would you like to be a group 4; if it's one of the smaller engined ones you may be in luck.

But watch out for some strange groups in the near future; Insurers are playing with the numbers again and moving to a new system with approximately twice the value (give or take a couple of points). Therefore something that was listed as a 4 last year, could turn out to be a 10 in the new system. Overall prices shouldn't be affected, but what's the betting we'll all pay a bit more under the new scheme?

I wouldn't be at all surprised and the government would like it as well but that is for a different topic. Anyway, model in question is the A.E.101 body shape, diesel of all things

Insurance groups have gone down I think on the Corolla over recent year.

My first Corolla was a M-plate 1.3 petrol. Not sure on the exact model, but it was group 9 insurance, very high for the type of car. However, my current E12 facelift 1.6 petrol SR is group 6 insurance, my previous E12 pre-facelift 1.4 petrol T3 was only group 4, so much lower than the smaller engined M-plate car!

I see. I will still get one if I have a chance to get a car in the near future though, they look so cool and are diesel so will be economical! Edit: We are talking about the rounded one with the flick at the tailgate which looks sort of like a mini spoiler aren't we?

you thinks group ten is bad for an CE100 (the diesel variant of the E100 generation) think of poor john905 in his SE101  i know of only two insurance companies that won't laugh him off the phone.

even the 1.6 vvti ZZE111 has been in group 9, but an under-powered 1.4 vvti is just group 6... a 1.6 16V golf is the same

Most japanese built cars at the time were quite high insurance tbh & thats why some didnt sell quite well as it should of & maybe partly due to safety features or lack of as at the time some european cars had some safety features that some japanese cars didnt at the time, i remember at the time the 1992 mazda 323f 1.6 & the mitsubishi colt 1.6 was grp 12 ! but the newer models came down few yrs later

tpft is always less than fc true, but tpft on group 9 is highly likely to be higher than tpft on say, a group 5 car
