Hi,

recently i asked about the engine reving up when changing gears, thinking that might be the problem about the fuel consumption. By the answers i got, everything seems to be working fine. But the main problem is my big fuel consumption. Since the first day i noticed that my aygo consumes too much, what is completely oposite of everything i've read before i decided to buy one. It consumes 9-10 LITERS/100 km. Does someone have any idea what can be the problem?

Anyway i'm taking it tomorrow to toyota to check it.

How many miles on the engine? Toyota engines are usually stiff to begin with and you might not get great economy until you've done a few thousand miles.

And how do you drive it? :D

Can easily wreck the economy by driving it hard, of course.

It's four month old, driven about 1500 km. And because it's new i'm not pushing it, i'm driving regularly not over 3000rpms.

First of all, A/C is on or off. Secondly, try driving outside the cities and see the fuel consumption. If it's about 5l to 100 km, the car is ok. Mine used about 7.6 city driving. After 1800 km, the fuel consumption is down to 6.8, as I have been starting to drive it more carefully. It's a very crowded city, my previous car had a 800cc engine, 4.6 city recomanded fuel consumption - my fuel consumption was 8-8.5 litres, the motorway was 4.3, i did 4.5 and the best was 4.2, under the specs.

So... go on the motorway, do 300 km and refuel. See an approximate value :)

No, i haven't used A/C yet. But I'll try the open road test.

Another question, when your car is warmed up and you are not moving (for example waiting on traffic light) how much does your rpm meter (if you have one) shows?

Thanks.

Mine shows a little under 1000rpm. If I'd have to guess I'd say about 850 to 900...

Like 2-3 milimeters under the 1000 rpm. I am guessing about 800-850 rpm.

OK, thank you. I ask that because I took mine to Toyota and after they checked it, they said that it work on higher rpm than average. But mine shows the same value like yours, around 900 rpm.

Mines regularly turning 50mpg, around town with A/C on all the time, in auto mode as well, it perked up at about 5,000 miles, it now has 9,000 on it, going to Barcelona in 7 weeks, hoping for 60mpg on long trip, drive it like a city car, you'll get good mpg.. laugh as you go by those big 4x4 gas guzzlers, trying to get more than 25mpg out of them lol...

Hi,

i went to Toyota and after some testing they are going to change the throttle body on the engine. I hope that will help reduce the fuel consumption. ;)
