Does anyone know if you can get some sort of parcel shelf or similar device for the 4.1? i'm conscience that you can see what i have in the 'boot' and i dont have tinted windows. If there isnt anything whats a ball park figure to get windows tinted please?

Cheers :D

Ball park for yours £150-£200.

I'm sceptical about a parcel shelf as far as security is concerned. Combined with tinting, if they can't see in they'll assume something is being hidden and break in anyway and a parcel shelf certainly doesn't make the load space secure. IMO you might as well throw a blanket over your treasure!

Bothy or one of the other 4.1 owners might be able to tell you if a parcel shelf exists. If it does you might be able to get hold of one which would at least look a bit better (normal).

Having said all that I think your car would suite being tinted for aesthetics.

Nice looking car from what I can see of it.

Cheers

I've never seen a 4.1 with a parcel shelf - I suppose the early ones, having reclining back seats, were more difficult to fit a shelf....and it was designed as a small off roader so shelves at that time were for cars/hatchbacks.

My experience has been that if someone thinks something is worth getting from your car then they'll get it. Better just to leave the boot empty. The only thing I have is a small trolley jack in a case, which sadly isn't bolted/strapped down. But as I'm not strapped in either, then I'll be out the windscreen first!! I'm hoping to find a lightweight trolley jack which I'll strap in. Just don't want to pay the silly money thats asked for them.

The other thing that I think anchorman mentioned was a lockable box in the back, but then it becomes obvious that its worth nicking! Take yer handbag with you like I do.

If you have some items in the car which you want to leave in the car and hide from view, then another option could be to make a false floor type shelf?

Piece of thin MDF or similar shaped to fit the contours of the boot, stick some car carpet material on top of it, and have with a couple of supports underneath at each end. Then just put over the gear you want to hide, and if anyone looks in, all they will see is an empty boot.

The average brain-dead thieving scroteburger would not know the boot depth is not quite as it should be.

For security of small items, check out PacSafe. I use one if I absolutely have to leave a camera in my car or anywhere else where it's likely to get half inched. It works best if you have something to lock it to - e.g. a strut brace which I have in the front storage compartment of my MR2.

Alternatively, for car safes - I noticed my local Maplin had a couple in stock at reasonable prices. Check them out if you're thinking of getting one.

Neither are a guaranteed way of protecting stuff; nothing is. But if you can slow them down, they might just move on rather than taking your stuff.

Thanks AM - ive just put some pics on the photos thread. Sadly however due to a split with 'Snowyman' i have had to leave the shire and go back to Nottingham :( so i can't proclaim to be part of the Derbyshire-ites RAV owners!

Aye but its still in Enger-wotistname.

Had the rear exhaust box changed to a straight thru variety - not as loud as I hoped -

However, top end acceleration is nimble - if weather holds out tomorrow, I'll need to take rear step off as its fragmenting. The rear bumper spat which the exhaust fits thru has dropped a bit as well so I'm getting a squeak from that. If I get them off (the bumper bits) I'll take a photo of the tailpipe extension as its a bit different I think to those posted.

And another thank you to parts king for getting the hub carrier delivered in good time.

Later this week, get the lightweight alloys and low profile tyres for the 1/4 mile thrashes - but it looks as if I'll be down to warrington in Rav number 1 as RAV number 2 is taking longer to modify - the donor car had more bits removed than I'd thought.

Hello Fellow RAVers,

Just bought a 5 door 4.1, and it came without a parcel shelf, allowing people to see whatever I had in the back...

The soultion is called a "Tonneau Cover" which costs (Ouch!) £109 from any main Toyota dealer.

It is a tough cloth type affair which rolls up and is secured when rolled by two straps with studs.

Stretched out and installed it is held on to the rear seats by the head rests, the other end by the door is held in with a rigid pole which springs into place...

I'll post a pic for any curious members shortly

Mike..

I like everything about it apart from the price!

Tell me about it *sob*... Does look quite "natural" when installed though... and doesn't scream "I'm trying to hide stuff"...

Mike.

If the holes are there ready for the telescopic pole to pop into, then a DIY job with a suitable sprung roller-blind and a telescopic shower-curtain pole could be fairly easy to make
