Carina E Auto Not Getting Thru Gears Effeciently When Cold

Recommended Posts

I have a carina 1.8 16v auto.

I had previously only owned and driven manuals so cannot compare to other automatics.

have a problem when car is cold or has not been driven far. I am minutes from the bypass and when I get to bypass car seems slow to get up thru gears. getting up to 4 thousand revs before changing when trying to pick up to bout 50-60 mph. it can go quite a while before changing and of course being on the A14 i cannot trundle along until car is ready for the higher speeds.

does transmission oil need changing? what else could it be?

did change a fuel injector about 18 months ago but that was loss of power when car was hot so dont think it is same problem

any ideas folks?

Hi

Toyota's need to warm up to around 65 degrees before the auto box will change into overdrive (Top gear) This took about 2 miles on my Carina.

Have you checked the Gearbox fluid level ? Check it correctly as per the handbook and do not overfill.

I changed my Gearbox oil at 100,000, but this was just a precaution.

I hope this helps
