Is Mk1 Rav4 Fitted With A Non Interference Engine

hi am selling my mk1 rav4, has done 74000 miles, when i bought it off an ex AA patrolman he gave me a cambelt but said no need to worry as they have a non-interference engine so if the belt was to snap no damage would be done, is this correct as a potential buyer said he had made enquiries and they are not fitted with the afore mentioned engine?????? who is right?
