I have recently bought a k&n typhoon induction kit for my celica, Since installed the car has been drinking petrol alot quicker than I expected it to. I was looking around to buy a superchip to optimise performance but have struggled to find any for gen 7's. Has anybody had this done and/or recomend this, if not do you think a engine re-map at a garage would be of benefit. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks Malcy

Hi Malcy. I looked into this only a few months ago, as I wanted to chip mine. I emailed loads of places and the only way to chip the Celica vvti is to either, replaced the ECU with a superchip or have a piggy back system. One piggy back system that would work is Dastek's Unichip. Though it will only provide about 5-8% power increase (that's what they told me). Should cost about £400 (that doesn't include fitting & testing).

The reason why it's hard to get a chip for the Celica is because, Toyota did a really good job on the ECU in the first place. Plus I don't think many places tune Jap cars.

My advice would be to forget the chip and do the following -

Make sure car is serviced every 10k miles.

Use good grade fuel.

Ensure tyres are checked weekly.

Use a fuel cleaning addictive that works.

Accelerate slower and change gears quicker (around the 3k revs mark).

I've got a K&N panel filter on mine and removed the silencer box from the front of the air box, to make a cheap mans induction kit. It worked, I felt the more power and the roar, but also the drop in fuel. Mainly because I'd become a bit heavy footed, but also as getting more air in the engine burns a bit more fuel from the whole process.

i removed that noise reduction valve too i noticed it to be more responsive but the roar got anoying when on the motorway so i decided to reinstall it. i had this bloke at work who reckoned he had a programme on his laptop so he could plug it into my ecu in remap it through his laptop, i replied get the hell away from my car lol. my advice if u wanna go alot faster than the celica already goes get a new car (190)

there's a guy in the hamilton area that says he can re-map the ECU, done my civic diesil and was asking him about other cars and he says any car with an ECU can be done, occationally they need to replace a chip to make it programmable but it can be done clicky for his site
