Painted mine whilst they were on.

Washed and then lightly sanded the calipers, left to dry and then applied the first coat.

It only took about 10mins for the paint to dry but the longer you can leave them the better.

You don't really want to heat the calipers up if the paint's only just dried.

I still need to put a second coat on mine as i had only put one coat on and left it to dry whilst i watched the F1!

Then it started raining :(

So hopefully if we get some nice weather i can finish the job!

Just need to find some nice caliper decals to finish it off!

I contemplated removing the caliper, but being no mechanic i decided against it!

Just painted as much as i could see.

I followed the instructions on the tin which said to leave it at least 10mins between coats and to apply at least two to get a good finish.

There are some paints which say they are "one coat", so prob best just to check what it says on the tin.

You can apply as many coats as you like i suppose until you're happy with the finish.

Just remember to give it plenty of time to dry out before going out driving!

I used the "touch & nail" test!

Dry to the "touch" and a "fingernail" doesn't leave a mark when dug in slightly (to make sure the paint's not still soft")

you can just use normal hammerite, its the same stuff as the brake paint and has the same heat rating, it just doesn't come in as many pyscho colours. its also cheaper.

I would always try and get the calipers off if i can. but make sure you clip the hoses, otherwise if you get air in the ABS pump you need to plug it into a computer for it to self bleed - so i'm told?! hopefully someone can verify that.

I just used hammerite on mine. I kept the calipers on, gave them a wash, then sand done, washed again and then painted.

If you go to the link and scroll down a bit, you'll see some images of my calipers.

if you want to do a proper job remove the calipers from the car. buy some brake hose clamps so you dont lose all the fluid and remember to bleed the brakes afterwards - starting with the caliper furthest from the master cylinder. throughly degrease caliper, sand, then use panel wipe then tack cloth the surface. use 2 - 3 coats of primer, 15 mins between coats and allow to dry over night. wet n dry primer then again use panel wipe and a tack cloth. then you want to apply 2 - 4 coats of your desired colour in the same manner as the primer. if you want a really good finish wet n dry the paint before applying laquer and allow to harden.

I got them off eBay for £7. Though I don't think they do Corolla ones. You can get TRD ones from the same seller. Just search for - brake caliper decals.

primer?

wouldnt i just use the caliper paint without applying the primer?

does it make alot of difference if i dont use primer

being no mechanice.. is there any step by step instruction to remove the caliper and put it back on the bleed the brakes?

that's why i suggested using primer - preferably filler primer, you can wet n dry them flat which i think looks better.

Hi Fellas!

Sorry to revive an old thread, just painted the calipers last week and ordered some decals for them off eBay. I'd seen the same ones on here for the Celica, but the bloke selling them was spot on an made some Corolla ones as I'd asked

Thought I'd post a few pics;
