Engine Pinking

Hi All

Has anybody had a problem with a T Sport pinking. My son's car has developed this problem allegedly, although I have not witnessed it yet. He always uses Shell premium fuel which should reduce the liklihood of this as it is higher octane. Once I see the car I will probably try resetting the ECU first of all to see if this helps. Any other thoughts or comments welcome.

Cheers

Mark

That was my car being dicussed, and I thought it was pinking, but upon listening now I'm back home we think it's probably the gearbox :crybaby:

I'm taking it to Toyota tomorrow to see what they say about it. Could be an expensive job if it's the box, and could mean selling it. Only time will tell, I'll let you know how it goes.

kularm, there's some detail here:

As Mat-O says, the problem is with the gearbox. I imagine that there may have been a bearing failure (possibly on the final drive) as its more than just a rumble, which is the usual symptom of a worn bearing. Cheers for the interest anyway.

Good grief, pinking ! I aint heard anyone talk about that for yrs ans yrs. Those were the days :yahoo:

You're right HowardL, that's what comes with being old school I'm afraid. Mind you, I suppose if somebody understands the old terminology, at least there's a fair chance of them having a bit of savvy when it comes to repairs etc. Some of the scripts I read on here and elsewhere scare the life out of me...Oh well, back to the cocoa ;-)
