Hi, Noob Here Going To Buy An Aygo

Recommended Posts

Hello, My name's Lister2020 and I'm an alcoholic.

Oops, wrong forum. :D

I'm 23 and from N. Ireland. Sit my test on June 10 and assuming I pass first go I'm going to get an aygo.

Here in N. Ireland we are restricted to 45mph in the first year so breaking the engine in easiy shouldn't be a problem.

I'm thinking about the aygo blue because of the bluetooth, aircon and the 6 speaker system (yes it may not be fantastic quality, and whilst its general dancey stuff I listen to I don't blare it out at 100+DB)

I was just wondering if you guys think I should go ahead and get that model or maybe get one of the other ones. I'm buying new and I was hoping to get a years insurance with it but if I can't I got a pretty decent quote (can get fully comp for £696 or 3rd party only for £394).

Soooooooo was just wondering if any owners had any tips on which to buy or anything to avoid, that kind of thing. Any help appreciated.

Hi Lister,

I am in Belfast and just got an Aygo Blue from Charles Hurst in Dundonald last week. Speak to Jim Shaw, he should be able to do you a good deal on an Aygo Blue.

They are fantastic little cars, I downgraded from a Mini Cooper and to be honest the Aygo feels like just as good a car in lots of ways, better in some! The bluetooth function is really cool, my mates were very impressed when the car started to speak to me "You have a new text message" LOL.

For an economic budget funky little car you can't go wrong, I love it! The 1 litre engine sounds great and there's good acceleration round town, even on the motorway it holds its own.

Good luck!

P.S. Sooz, you should have 2 little tweeters in your A pillars just above the front Speakers ;)

oh! hehehe, i wondered what these little things were - DOH!

Hey, so you think I should go ahead and get the blue?

I actually live out in Craigavon, so I will probably end up going to Shelbourne motors, unless the place you got it from could offer a significantly better deal to make the trip up and down worth while.

Either way I'm really looking forward to getting it :D

Did you get a years insurances with yours?

Also forgot to ask, 3 door vs 5 door....... worth the extra cpl hundred pounds??

Aygo Blue is best!! So good they are making it again in Aygo Blue slate!!

Lister told me the years insurance through them wasnt worth it and be cheaper to get me own.

Ok, do you only get insurance if you go finance? Because I would pefer to pay with cash up front unless finance got me a better deal.

As I said the quote i got for fully comp was £696.

Depends on what you will use the car for, if its just a car for yourself to run about in then 3 door will suffice.

If you are going to be a Taxi service to your family and/or friends then go for the 5 door.

I went for the 5 door basically because i have never owned a 5 door car before lol and my poor mum used to struggle getting in and out of the back of my mini cooper.

Another reason was the fact the Aygo seats don't have memory, so when you slide them forward to let someone in the back they wont return to the previous position set, with a 5 door there is no need to ever move the seats.

Also for access to the back its handy, I bought a big mirror in ikea on Friday and it was simple to open the back door and slide it up the back of the seats, it would have been a struggle with the Mini.

Well im sure my mates will be scooting about with me sometimes but they might have to get in and out lol. I think the 5 door might be better when im starting to move stuff out of my parents and into my own place in a year or two though.

How much extra is it, 300?

3 door looks better than 5 door, think it might be a bit more than that is my finance dropped a bit when I changed it back to 3 door, but the seats can be annoying of you are shoveling people in the back all the time tho.

I think you do have to have the finance but not sure!

Well If I get a 3 door people getting in and out the back would be using the passenger side so thats no biggie. 3 door looks better? Is there a difference apart from the doors that I haven't noticed?

if its worth the 200-300 for the 5 door I'd get it. I intend this car to last me SEVERAL years, like at least 5. I won't be upgrading any time soon, so I want to get worthwhile stuff for it.

I'd upgrade to alloys maybe and stuff like that, get an alarm/immobiliser in if it doesn't have one.

£250 extra

really is that all!! bloody hell, well 3 door still looks better as it has the cute areoplane windows not the useless flappy bits of glass

If you get the style pack you get alloys and scuff plates and other bits of cool styling too! its about £600 tho.

I think the Aygo looks nice in the 5 door, the back doors are quite subtle compared to some 5 door cars. Here's mine...

It comes with an immobiliser as standard.

I also got the style pack, which was £595 extra but worth it for the alloys, scuff plates and front fogs :D

flappy glass? that doesnt sound good :S

Yea Id get the style pack. I was going to go for leather interior also but that might be overkill?

Im going to loan 8 grand and will prob have around 1500 cash max to spend.

Where do you live so that I might....... LOOK at the car ;)

yea, I think they both look good, but what exactly is meant by flappy glass

also, is the immobiliser standard on both or just the 5 door?

Posted

They have plenty in the showrooms for you to "look" at LOL!

Immobiliser is standard in all of them. And the glass isn't flappy! Its just the glass that opens on a bracket rather than sliding up and down, at least the 5 door rear windows open :P

I used to live in Portadown, I know Shelbourne's well and rang them about an Aygo Blue but the girl there (Louise I think her name was) said they couldn't get me one until July! Charles Hurst in Boucher Road were equally as useless, they didnt even have an Aygo on site.

Charles Hurst in Dundonald were the only ones who actually bothered to arrange a test drive for me and told me they could get me what I wanted in about 2 weeks, and they did!

Hmm I guess i'll just have to see them both side by side and decide then, shoudl be going into the garage in about two weeks

Hmm...Assuming I pass on june 10 I'd want it as soon as possible afterwards. A trip to dundonald might be on the cards then. I would definitely want a test drive first.

Why wouldn't you get a test drive a mean, how silly is that :)

Just depends on how fussy you are, any garage could probably sort you out an Aygo pretty quick, but when you start saying "I want Blue, 5 door, with Style Pack" you might have to wait for it to be delivered from the factory which can take up to 3-4 months.

They can see on their computer what is available in stock, at the time I went they only had Aygo Platinums at 1 - 2 weeks wait, but I really wanted an Aygo Blue.

You just need to shop around and see what is available. I think Dundonald were able to source me one from another garage rather than ordering one from the factory.
