Instrument Cluster Lighting

I have just bought an 06 plate Verso TR which I love, a great improvement on an old Focus estate. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that the instrument lighting dims automatically when the headlights are turned on which is fine for night driving but if you put your headlights on during the day the instruments can be difficult to read. With the possibility of an EU directive forcing all motorisits to drive with headlights on during the day from 2011, I wondered if anyone was thinking the same as me - how can I read the instruments in daylight with the lights on?

Rewiring/bypass job? Are Toyota coming up with a solution?

I know on the Yaris is you switch your lights on the dials dim down, but if you push the mode button on the dash afterwards they come on bright again.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, a bit of random button pressing of the dim/odo/trip button with the headlights on brings the display on brightly. I imagine that I will have to adjust it down again for night driving as it will be too bright, but that's a small point now that my one gripe with the car is sorted. An excelent forum, I shall be a regular visitor.

Indeed it is an excellent forum, I visit it daily just to see what is going on. Members are always helpful and have answered any questions I have had so far.

Just discovered the same "Feature" on my 4 day old Verso. After some playing about, setting the display brightness with headlights on, then setting it again with headlights off I seem to have 2 settings 1 for headlights on and 1 for headlights off. I could be wrong and this may reset itself. The owners handbook doesn't seem to mention different brightness settings for lights on or off only how to change the brightness.

Push one of the buttons in the dashboard thats where the dashboardlights can be set but first put the lights on

Push it severaltimes

I also have a question about the instrument lighting. As already said there seems to be two settings, one with lights off and another with lights on. But on mine the settings behave differently.

With lights off I have 3 settings 2X 1 stripe, 2X 2 stripes and 2X 3 stripes.

With lights on I have 5 settings 1X 1stripe, 2X 1 stripe, 1X 2 stripes, 1X 2 stripes and 2X 3 stripes.

For some reason the setting 1X 3 stripes is not possible, it misses this out in the sequence (although I think I have seen it once!). The question is, is this normal, do all Versos do this or is there something wrong with mine?

Also while we are on the subject, the E/T display does not reset to 0 when the car is started, the instruction book "suggests" that it should. What is the normal behaviour?

Thanks for any help,

Andy

My E/T does not reset unless you do it manually using the buttons. I think this is good for longer trips where you have to take a break, as you can see the whole journey time rather than just the last leg of the trip.

Bedankt, ga ik zeker doen.

Maar ik ben Engels van oorsprong, Nederlands lezen vind ik geen probleem, maar schrijven, zeker als je een probleem wil uitleggen vind ik moeilijk.

Groetjes.

Thanks for your reply, I thought it might be something like that, but the owner manual (Dutch version) is not clear on this, you can read it either way.

At least I now know that mine is normal.

Regards.
