Ecu & Immobiliser

wonder if anyone can clear this up for me.............. i have recently bought another GXi as a bit of a project - before i bought another car i was selling the parts from me old GXi, i had an enquiry about the engine. The fella wanted to fit the 1800 in a corolla but said he needed the ECU as he was running a smaller engine at present, but he also wanted the immobilser box. He said the ECU wont run without it - is this correct? The reason being i am about to scrap the remainders of me old GXi and dont want to end up in the position of having an ECU that wont work. I have already swapped the engines over but want to keep an ECU for spare - doesnt really add up to me unless the 1300 ECU doesnt recognise the 7a immobilser and vice versa. Can anyone clear this confusion up for me?
