Celica 190 Ecu Problems

Hi,

I haver recently had a replacement Re-con engine fitted to my 2001 celica 190 (2zz-ge).

I picked the car up from Birmingham on Saturday 23/2/2008 and drove 250 miles to Newcastle. The car seemed fine but i was told to take it easy to start with as it was llike a new engine. Due to this i couldn't take the revs high enough to see if the lift was working.

While the garage had my car they told me that the vvti sensors needed replaced and the O2 sensors as the ones off my previous engine were broken. These were replaced and as i say the car seemed ok driving home.

On Sunday 24/2/2008 i started the car to find the engine management light on. I took it to local garage today 25th and put it on diagnostic machine and it didn't bring up specefic codes. It only brought up on screen (Manufacturers specifications) which was not really any help. The light was cleared and after about a mile it came back on...

I have now had the car to toyota and they have told me that it is the lift sensor or the ecu. Diagnostic codes

P1692/39

P1693/39

Does anyone have any sort of information on this as i have spent too much on this car to be spending too much more.

Also any price of a reprogram on my ECU.

Also the engine used to rev over 8000 but now only revs to 7000 the limiter cuts in..

Many thanks

Steven Thompson

FURTHER TO THIS I HAVE HAD ANOTHER ENGINE FITTED AND THE SAME CODES ARE COMING UP. Can anyone reccomend a place for a new ecuplease

Sounds like you are having a terrible time.

You need support I think but this forum is pretty moribund.

You need to pop over to www.celica-club.co.uk where there are literally hundreds of owners active.

One way to sort this out is to go to your local Toyota garage and ask them to diagnose. It will be expensive, but they should know what they are doing. However it does not sound like they are being that helpful in this case!

A cheaper alternative is to post to the above forum and see if you can't find a member who lives near you. Really its an active community in there and people would be willing to help. There's also a guide to checking your lift bolts for instance.

cheers

Mike

I believe that ECU probs are a known fault of Celica's. One thing that this causes are the head lights to flicker and the radio to turn itself off ! Not sure re the cost to replact ECU but would guess it could be expensive.

Good Luck !

ECU replacement is approx £700 from Toyota.

Your engine cuts at 7000? With no lift from 6000? Are you aware the 1zz-fe engine cuts at 7000? Just wanted to make sure you've got the right engine in there!
