Idling

i bought myself a timing light today to set the car up after swapping engines in me GXi (7a-fe). before i timed her the car was ticking over at 700rpm and was a bit lumpy - wasnt going into fast idle from cold. i changed the idle control valve yesterday as i had one laying around which made no difference. i timed her today and it was a bit off - but when i adjusted the revs rose to 1100rpm. i checked the idle screw and that was at its lowest point so i could only raise the revs, i didnt think it would be that as its pre set and has never been adjusted in the past. Anyone have any ideas as to why the revs are sitting so high?

the O2 Sensor (some call it the lambda sensor) i had the exact same funny idle problem on my car. It is common among the 4A-FE/7A-FE engines for them to fail after 40-50,000 miles. Replaced mine big difference on idle and fuel economy.

do you think that would cause it to rev 400rpm to high? will try cleaning the lambda sensor and maybe get one of the testers draper do - but i'm not sure it is that as the car wasnt doing it before i swapped the engine but worth checking anyway and some wd40 has passed through the manifold and i dont think thats lambda sensor frienldly! could the throttle position sensor effect idle? gonne check that too tomorrow...........

Hope you bridged Terminals TE1 + E1 before checking/adjusting the timing.

ye i did mate - the only think i didnt do was block the vacuum pipe like it said on the instructions from draper. are they talking about the pipe underneath the throttle body between the water pipes? when i removed the bridge and checked it was in spec so i'm not sure if the vacuum pipe makes any difference. so i've got the o2 sensor to check, tps to check - come on lads add some more jobs to me list for tomorrow! wouldnt mind i've 2 a4 pages of jobs to do without these lil extra's - all be worth it in the end :yahoo:
