Clutchs Again

Rite lads i had the car out for a spin few mins ago

When your clutches were on the way out did you get a sort of flat spot above 4250rpm, like bit of go before 4250 then nothing, nothing, lift . It doesnt seam to be slipping below this, nailed it in first from idle and it only when i get to 4250 engine sort of runs out of steam or forward momentum for a bit , same in second and 3. I couldnt find a rite hill and the cops were out also so didnt want to draw attention to myself.

Iv never noticed this before but i dont rag the car very often to be honest, but from when i did push it a bit from memory the power band was fairly linear, no real flat spots then a bit of a kick on lift point. Dont know is my mind playing tricks!!!!

Seamed ok on lift, can feel it kicking in.

No smell of burning

No warning lights either

Any advice welcome

Cheers

Hogie

Doesn't sound like the clutch; with the clutch the revs will keep rising without the car getting any faster. And it's torque related more than power, so can happen at low revs. And clutch will smell if it's slipping badly and you press the loud pedal too hard.

If you look at the 190 power curve you'll see it starts to tail off slightly just before the high lift cam engages, but only very slightly; it's barely noticeable.

If you're loosing top end power then that's something else; on an earlier car it could be lift bolts, but yours should have been made just after they stopped fitting the chocolate ones.

Has it been serviced recently? Could be a breathing problem perhaps - filter might be in need of replacement / clean possibly.

I gave it an oil change just 2k ago, the old oil was 5k old at that point, oil is just below the top mark of th dip stick. Had a look at the air filter just now, its only 7k old and its clean. It seams fine on lift. Still kicking in. She is a full toyota history car also

I have another air flow meter at home, i must pop that in at the w.end, wont do it any harm.

Before i thought i could hear a rattle from the top end but it turned out to be a bracket loose.

Something new every week with this car

Could be as simple as a bad batch of fuel perhaps.

See how it goes for the next few weeks, especially after you've next filled up.
