before you go out and buy a clutch carefully inspect the clutch pedal bracket inside the car these are a known weak point and split causing the problems you are experiencing

if i can visualy see the cylinder operating when i push the clutch pedal that means the problem doesnt lie in the pedal but in the clutch itself?

cheers for help

Which cylinder can you see moving?

What is the pressure like on the pedal? Does it fully rise after you've pressed it?

Worn clutch plates will not normally stop you getting into gear - rather they result in slippage. So perhaps your clutch mechanism has failed catastrophically in which case it will be a clutch fault of some other kind causing permanent drive, but I'd be wondering whether it might be the master cylinder before replacing the clutch on a GT4 as it's quite a job.

the pressure on the clutch feels normal. the cylinder i can see moveing is the one on the side of the box underneeth the turbo. and yeah it fuuly rises after pressing. it will not allow me to engage gears 1 through to 5 at all if you try you get a kinda judder but no crunching. if you try to engage reverse you get a lovely crunch.

whats confusing me is that i have had no signs of the clutch been on its way out. i think it is the actuall clutch that has gone its going in a garrage tommorow to get sorted i got my clutch today. its abit weird why that its all of a sudden gone.

maybe thinking the release bering has went through the teeth on the clutch and on the pressure plate

Yes, it's probably something of that ilk, or something else snapped inside.

You're right, you normally get lots of warning of clutch failure. The other thing that might lead to the problem you have is the clutch getting so worn that it siezes onto the flyweel and pressure plate, but that normally only happens once the clutch is completely worn out, and it sounds like that wasn't the case with yours.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck with it.

Shame. I let mine go for the same reason TBH. The ironic thing is that I'd probably sorted out everything else (apart from the clutch which was slipping badly) so the new owner probably got a very reliable car once he'd fixed that. I hope he did as I'd like to think it'll be around for good while yet somewhere, even if I don't get the fun of driving it. But you never know what to do for the best really.

I think these cars are fairly reliable on the whole, especially for what they are. But when something does go it's usually a major job because everything's so tightly packed in there.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide to do.
