I must've struggled with it yesterday during a good clean up to try and lift the sitting part of the back seat

i can get the back bit to fold down but i couldnt get the back seat to lift up like it says on the manual. i managed to lift it sort of - the back half lifted off and i saw the clips at the front but i couldnt work out how to release them!

its the saloon version of the avensis 06 plate.

hi. if it's anything like my '04 estate . i have to lift the front bits of the seat up first and then sort of swing the back up and forward. You just yank them off the clips and then lift and swing. To return them to their original position firstly tilit the back of the base into position under the back rest and then press down on the front bit to clip into position.

hope i've not confused you too much.

cheers stu

The estate model will be different from the saloon model, the saloon has a u shaped bracket inserting into a plastic cup and can be a real b******D to get free. If you don't really need to lift the seats, leave them well alone azs you can distort the fixing brackets and make the seat insecure for the sake of hoovering 50p a childs toy and two moulded sweets :D

yes, regarding the sweets and toys :D but I'm a mechanic of 22 years and have worked in a Toyota dealership for 4 of them :P that picture makes it look simple but it's not that easy ;) I have to lift more than 1 Avensis seat on a daily basis and they are not my own cars, no offence to Toyota but if you want to own one, make sure your car was built in Japan! Sticker above drivers window, here in the UK anyway  and if you look at my profile, you'll notice I don't own an Avensis and never will as long as they are built in Europe, may as well buy a Saab (GM) or Volvo(Ford).
