Oily Dump Valve

Went to have a look at my engine the other day i notice oil all over the Blow off valve. Also seems as if the oil is being shot out of the valve because the hood was all splattered underneath. Anybody know what might be causing this? Should i be worried about some kind of serious problem. Its a 1991 st185 Rc.

it is a serious problem! it normally points to ringland failure or blowing a piston! it happened to me and it turned out to be the piston cracked. ended up in a full rebuild or new engine. i went for the rebuild. be prepared for a big bill

I don’t know much about a compression test to be honest, I just know I had 1 done to confirm the problem. If I remember correctly it’s a park plug thing that gives the read out and each cylinder is checked. Ring a mechanic and see if he can do the test and take it from there. I think quite a lot of people have a problem with piston number 2

120k on mine but that no the corect reading the 1st 70k wer in km. so it would have been arround the 94000 mark. hard to believe that car has done that when u look at it. i wouldnt fit forged pistons to standard rods, im sure it could be done but that would be the weak link in the chain! may as well get it all done as you dont want to b payin some 1 to rip the engine out again to do the rods at a later date
