i have read all the info on this problem , and many thanks to all the members for your input. But i am still a bit concerned over this issue,

my info is here,

model- rav4 d-d4 vx variant cla21(w) 5 door

engine size - 1995cc

chassis no - jtheg20v000030178

mileage- 70730

it has a full toyota service history, but i have a niggle in the back of my mind the car has a fault, it does seem to be a bit noisey, and a vibration at low revs , i have found out if i drive like this ,

gear 1 = 10 mpg

2 = 20

3 = 30

4 = 40

5 = 50

as long as the revs dont go below 2000 revs there is no vibration , and the secound niggle is, if i pull away flat out i do get a slight cluch judder .

could some one put my mind at rest one way or the other, could these sytoms be the dreaded dmf

thanks again for all the info on the above matter

Jibbbbbb.... Some of the members are away in Warrington having a meet up (The first of many)...So this is why you have not got an answer sooner...

I couldn't make it so for now it's me and you :lol: :lol: :lol:

Your symptoms do sound (sorry for the pun ;) ) like mine before my DMF went..... pulling away on some inclines or junctions and get the clutch judder...

Does yours have a metallic rattling sound rather like a loose exhaust.... Has it been inspected buy Toyota technician...

Not now as mine has the new DMF and clutch fitted... Last November it gave up.... had to get it fixed...out of the Toyota warranty period as well so had to fork out full cost...

As you say you have a little doubt in the back of your mind, yours may be going...Mine went at 80K....

There are the tell tale signs as explained in Anchormans post..CLICK HERE..these go some way to explaining it...

Does you pull away OK and low gear movements say 1st and 2nd no audible noise...As mine used to hate it first thing and a pain to select gear until gear box warm

Hi jibbbbbb

Yours has the modified flywheel and fixings. Unfortunately that doesn't necessarily get you out of deep water becuase there are still owners with much newer vehicles having occasional problems - it is more of a statistical possibility with post modified vehicles (or any vehicle with a diesel engine and a DMF it comes to that).

From your description it does sound like you have something out of balance and that could be the DMF. The trouble is there is no way of predicting how long it will last - its a bit like looking at a light bulb and doing the same! The other snag is that sometimes they give lots of warning by becoming very noisy (metallic jingling) and very bad vibration and sometimes they won't let you get home from work. This is probably not what you want to hear but you could do several things;

One owner I know traded hers in for a newer model. The next owner gets some kind of warranty and it completely resolves the issue for you.

You could do it yourself. The gearbox needs to come out and it will cost you £695 for a Valeo kit (who supply the Original Toyota DMF) and that includes the clutch. You need to enlist the the help of a strong mate as the box is quite heavy but it is quite doable if you know or your mate knows how to do a clutch in a front wheel drive vehicle. This will be my option if mine ever goes. I can send you some instructions on how to do it if you are serious about having a go. You can get genuine Toyota parts from Kingo if you prefer.

You could go to a local independant. Let them get the DMF kit for £695 and then expect to pay £30 an hour ish for labour (I think about 10 hours).

You could approach a main dealer. They seem to be approaching TGB for some owners who are paying some or all of the warranty regardless of age or mileage. They turn others down flat but it costs you nowt to ask.

You could leave it and take a chance. It may go for a very long time.

Sorry I can't bring you good news but it may give you some sort of inspiration.

Regards

Ask them if it covers the DMF.
