Do The Orinally Fitted Cd Players In The Yaris Play Mp3 Discs?

Hey guyz, just wondering if anyone can help me, I am buying a Toyota Yaris next week, model: 2001 X Reg TOYOTA Yaris 1.3 VVT-i T Spirit, what I want to know is do the CD players play MP3 discs, or does it just depend which player I will have in my car? But I would assume all the Yaris's will have the same cd player fitted?

Hi Kolfizz :)

Someone might correct me on this but as far as I am aware that year of Yaris is a phase 1 and they came in S, GS, GLS etc trim, the T2, T3 and T-Spirit trim 'names' were introduced later. If I'm correct and the car is badged as a T-Spirit, this Badge might have been added later. The S, GS, GLS, CDX and SR trim level motifs were etched in silver on a piece of black plastic near the door mirrors, have a look there.

Again assuming this is correct, the S, GS, GLS and Colour Collection Blue models had cassette players as standard (the CD player was an option in these.) CD players were fitted as standard in the CDX, SR and T-Sport as well as the Colour Collection Red.

The answer to your question though is no - as far as I am aware no MK1 Yaris had an mp3 compatible CD player fitted as standard :(

As above.

There is no T-Spirit from that year; if it has a standard Toyota CD player fitted then it won’t play mp3’s.

hi and thanks to both of you for your replies :) , it doesnt matter if it doesnt play the mp3's, i'll just have to get my existing cd player fitted in to the yaris. Obviously, if it's possibble, I hope it is! :P

I have one more question, if someone can help, please do so! ;)

I was trying to get sme insurance quotes for my car on Auto trader, but the problem is when it comes to trim, it only lets me choose CDX 1999 - 2000 or GLS 2000 - 2007, there is no VVT-i T Spirit, so would anyone please tell me which trim would mine be? (the car is automatic, if it helps!) :)

As noted above it *should* say so just infront of the door mirrors. The GLS didn't have a CD player as standard, it was a cassette player, the CDX (read CDX) had a CD player as standard, it was the first Yaris to do so - hence the trim title. Unless you can get a look at the car or a picture of it it's going to be difficult to tell.

I'm not sure of the other differences between the two trim levels off the top of my head but I could find out for you :)

yeah it looks like a CDX. and no tmk it wont play MP3. its only in the new yaris that the cd player can play mp3s

looks like a cdx to me as they had air-con and a sun roof, alloys, leccie front windows, etc. A t-spirit is just a later name that took over from it when all Toyota's got re-badged. Ignore this as it is just what the last owner fitted.

A t-spirit is just a later name that took over from it when all Toyota's got re-badged. Ignore this as it is just what the last owner fitted.

ok, thanks to all for your helpful replies, really appreciated! one more question do u think this car is worth the price? £3295.00 the guy who is the owner of the garage told me i could have the car for £3000 but i get no mot, service or warranty on the car but if i pay full amount then i'll get mot, service and three months warranty. What do you all think?

That’s because there was no T-Spirit in that year, I think it was 2003 when the face lifted versions came out.

It also looks like it’s got some dubious history...

I tried the registration of every car I've ever owned and it came up with the same rubbish! Even the '04 Rolla T-pot which was bought new and still here...
