Having bought a Corolla Verso T-Spirit and having 3 small children (who will not wear the headphones) i was very disappointed to find that Toyota hadnt given a standard option to output the sound from the DVD play or the phono inputs (in the center console) via the car Speakers.

So i spent a lot of time reading the forums here to understand what options were available. The conclusion was

1) Take the dash to pieces and run a cable from the DVD phono outputs.

2) Plug a MP3 style FM transmitter in to the DVD player phono outputs

The problem was that this would render the phonos in the center console useless.

So i have found a way to get the best of both worlds using a special in car FM transmitter the (VEBA Wireless car stereo FM transmitter)

This is good because it supports two stereo inputs.

I got mine from the following place, good delivery and price. (I would like to point out that i have no connection to this company).

http://www.passionauto.co.uk/products/ice/..._avfm_mod02.php

The best place to install this is in the same location as the IR modulator box (beneath the center console).

So here is a guide to installing the transmitter.

After obtaining the DVD install manual from Toyota i discovered that the IR modulator is installed beneith the Center Console, to remove this insert a very thin rule down one side of the switch panel and flick up.

The undo the following bolts:-

The IR modulator box is beneath the handbrake.

Unplug the power and two audio cables, the red audio lead is from the DVD player, while the black audio lead is from the phono connectors.

Note the velcro strip joining the carpet, remove this and pull the cables forward, you need a standard 3.5mm to phono converter and a female power plug to connect to the supplied Veba power cable (both available from Maplins).

Put self adhesive velcro hooks on the bottom of the FM transmitter and set the frequency as desired. The Place the FM transmitter over the carpet join and plug in the cables. I connected the DVD feed to the 3.5 mm input on the FM transmitter and the Center console phonos to the Maplins adapter, and these phonos to the transmitter. As shown below.

Swithch on the DVD tune in the radio, and hey-presto DVD audio. The sound quality is pretty good...

Once its all working replace the center console, bolts and reconnect any cables.

Hope this is some use to somebody else.... Enjoy

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your solution I am sure a lot of Verso owners will find this very useful

Hi Psyence,

I've had my Verso for just over three years now and have always been disappointed that the DVD sound cannot be played via the car stereo.

After reader your post I thoght this was a good idea. However, I've done a modification on your installation as I wanted to retain headphone operation as well. First of all might I say that the link you provided for the Veba modulator must be out of date as there is nothing on that page and the site in question doesn't seem to have this anymore but after a search I discovered this part on another site for half price (£12.95). Before sending off for it another idea came to me. Kingston make an FR modulator that plugs into the power socket and allows an mp3 player to be connected so that it can be played back through the car stereo. I decided to go down that route.

I removed the centre column to access the connections just as you described but instead of putting in the connecting lead with the phono plugs I fitted a 3.5mm stereo splitter plug (again from Maplins) which effectively rejoined the original plug and socket connections. In the vacant socket I plugged in a stereo lead with a 3.5mm plug, fed the lead to the rear of the centre console where I installed a 3.5mm flush socket next to the power socket and connected the end of this lead. I then refitted the centre console.

Now whenever I want to play the DVD through the car stereo I just plug in the Kensington RF transmitter into the power socket and the audio lead from it into the stereo socket I fitted next to it. I now have sound via the car's Speakers and also if I do not wish to be distracted the headphones can still be used as normal. I have the added bonus of being able to play my mp3 music through my car stereo as well.

If you hadn't posted your article I probably wouldn't have thought of doing this. It's just a variation on your idea. Many thanks.

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum as I've owned a Toyota Corolla Verso just 6 months, I must say that given the quality of the posts I will be finding it invaluable.

I am hoping to get some further advice from the 2008 about the DVD & iPod connections. Firstly, given that there seems to be a lot of choice on the market for the components listed in the previous posts and the fact that some are obselete I wonder if someone could advise on something suitable now. I have found a piece of kit that seems to suggest would serve both purposes (modulator and transmitter) here:

http://www.amazon.com/Naxa-NA-3026-Modulator-Transmitter-Screed/dp/B0026KQY8E/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327159798&sr=1-14

Also, I am just trying to be clear about the instructions for re-routing the connections in the way that Anatoli has described, could you possibly guide me on those changes referring to the colour of the plugs and sockets?

Cheers

Hi,

With this wireless modulator, can you split the sound to just the back Speakers?
