Turbo On It's Way Out?

Recently installed a blitz dual drive blow off valve and hks smf air filter to my 185. After install the car made a very loud high pitched whirring/squealing noise, I thought I was just hearing the turbo more clearly now because the new air filter didn't muffle out the noise so much but just noticed today that I didnt tighten a gasket enough on the BOV and it was leaking a bit of oil. After I tightened up the gasket the loud whirring/screaming noise has stopped which leads me to this theory. The BOV was leaking pressure and the turbo was thus being overworked in order to reach normal boost levels this is what caused it to sound so loud. Any opinions anybody? + I am also concerned about the oil coming from the BOV...it was'nt a whole lot of oil BTW just a little. Could this be a sign of the turbo going due to the stress I was putting it under?

Mate the whirring noise is from the dump valve where is was blowing out air. I take it that you where only hearing this noise when the car was reaching boost, if so the same thing happened to me, not a problem.

As for the oil coming out of the dump valve, I would look into that a lot more! That was the 1st sign of a ringlands problem or blown piston. Take off the oil cap, is there smoke being baffled out? When my piston had blown the smoke was comin out of the oil cap when I removed it. Take out the dip stick is there any smoke coming from there? I would then get a mechanic to do a compression test or leak down test

Hi, My experience of a blowing turbo, albiet on a different vehicle, (same symptom) was that after driving with boost pressure, when I stopped, say for lights, roundabout etc, I was followed by a smokey cloud of smelly fumes. This was very noticable by myself and anyone in the immediate vicinity! :o

Checked the dipstick no smoke comes out. Damb top mount intercooler its gonna take me 30min just to check the oil cap :ffs:! There really wasn't a whole lot of oil from the DV though...

It is the stock watercooler for a 185RC cant even see the oil cap let alone get to it without taking the whole dam thing off. (same ordeal for the spark plugs). I might be wrong but I heard it is normal to have a bit of oil in the DV. That being said I will still check out what you are saying because its better safe than sorry.

there will always be some oil in the inlet and dump valve as the crank case breather discharges into the inlet pipe pre turbo. so the oil vapours will condense over time

i never had 1 drop of oil in my dump value until the piston blew! not a single drop. the dump value has been on for years and was bone dry. still get sum oil now in the dv but i think that must be what ever oil was sittin in the pipes from the piston blowing. its gettin less and less so i think they should be pretty much all cleared out.
