..........well physically that is, but I think I might have developed a slight nervous twitch :lol:

Thanks for that experience Bothy, you're a gent! Look forward to seeing No.2 RAV converted.

Makes you want to cast off two doors. On second thoughts, maybe not! :D

Do we have another TOC RAV sub-club here? "IRTBMAS" perhaps?

Good to meet every body who turned up at Warrington and thanks to Anchorman for organising an interesting day. Think AM may have a photo or possibly two.

Cheers

Some news to tell your Grandchildren when older.... "Long long time ago there was a ferocious beast...scaring young and old with it snarling fire spitting exhaust and deep earth shattering growl".....

Well you have to make a story sound good

.......but enough about the passenger (or was it the driver?), the car was so scary it required the wearing of specialist leak proof underwear

Apologies to those few who undertook the ride of a lifetime - it would have been a good bit better had the power steering been working!! I'll let you know what the diagnosis is once we remove said item.

One benefit was that it threw up an alignment fault which we originally thought was the rear suspension - I reckon its a front suspension problem as the car is dragging a little to the left - at speeds between 5mph and 110mph. The trip north was tiring as without the power steering, it meant a bit more muscle than usual.

shcm was the only 1 allowed to experience a late slow down for the approaching roundabout - a bill will be sent for the dent he made with his right foot in the passenger footwell     . Thankfully the seats are washable!!

Thanks to all who came along - it was a great day - the chat; the ride in RR*s demo diesel wi 5 doors; a good gander at Local heros innards;

Nobody allowed me a run in their own diesel tho....wonder why? These seem to be in pristine condition - well almost. I was inspecting a cobweb on the rear of duncs shiny RAV, to see if it had been polished too, when a seagull with a severe dose of E-Coli flew overhead, splattering the cars top, rear and sides. Have never laughed so much in my life!

And the only 4.2 there was a RAV after my own heart - used as it should, 3 doors, mucky wheels, and a driver wi his heart in the right place and his engine somewhere else cos it was a diesel - but ye cannae hae everything, eh??

Noo, waur can ye get haud o a cut-n-shut 3 door RAV, built from a 5 door beastie????

A very grateful and heartfelt thanks to those who bought raffle tickets from anchorman - I reckon he's missed his vocation in life - could sell sand to the arabs I'm sure!!

£100 was raised for Active4All and this will go into the Capital Development Fund. Appropriate thanks will be noted in our new website; and letters to Toyota as thanks for donating the gifts.

shcm went away with the prize of a waterproof Toyota jacket - now required when he goes anywhere near roundabouts!!

You have a mean looking ride there Bothy

Are you going to paint the rear drums red to match the front calipers? are the rear drums good enough with the power you have anyway??

Apologies Bothy, you could have gladly had a run in mine, just thought you'd already had a run in one diesel, and lets face it,anything short of a Porsche is going to feel very slow after your own car.

Local Hero - aifter yur car wis driven by a few fawk wi short right legs, and as the car is an icon in its own lifetime, aifter its owner; I'd hae taken nae satisfaction in flooring the brake pedal until the rpm caught up wi launch speed criteria..!

The rear drums are the originals - 14 years auld. Jist cos they're wrinkly ??? Onyway, the beast disnae need the rear brakes upgraded as several faok will tell ye. Hooever, I think I'll get the externals o the drum polished tae match anchormans paintwork :P

I just thought the rusty drums spoil the cars look slightly, esp with such open wheels - painted to match the calipers would look very smart.

.......or when attempting to drive LRs in the rain.

Maybe waterproof trousers would have been more useful. :D

No, the RAV Eurofighter felt quite stable, despite the lack of fly by wire. Impressive brakes and limpet tyres.

This reminds me, I've got a LR fleece somewhere. The wind goes straight through it (seriously - but what do you expect  ). Should have brought it up to Warrington for a ceremonial burning.

Really must stop this LR bashing. They employ people relatively locally after all

Nothin like employing fawk tae mak cars redundant! Ah can see everywan switching tae LRs when Tata get stuck in. If a LR clutch cylinder is cheaper than a bottle o Magners, whit chance hae Toyota got ??

Ah well - the bull bar is off just now as we need it for a template to have a new one fabricated. Which means the lights are off an aw.

UPDATE

Got the car back from the garage today.

The guys traced the power steering problem - very good actually cos theres no problem with the power steering. Theres a spring on the pump and the pump itself is A1.

What happened is that I heard a bang on the south bound of the M6 on Friday. This was an alternator bracket bolt snapping. The alternator bracket, being loose, moved and ripped half of the steering pump belt. Why the bolt sheared is unknown. It was the original Toyota bolt.

What is even more odd is that the alternator popped back to its proper position, albeit the bolt holding the bracket was broken. Drilling out the remainder of the bolt and inserting a strengthened bolt was the fix!!!! And of course a new steering pump belt. The steering pump; alternator; and alternator belt are all perfect.

So much for the diagnosis by the breakdown chap from Egertons garage when he came out on saturday morning to the hotel - via AXA Breakdown cover.

I have complained about his lack of helpfulness to my insurance company - Footman james - and they are taking it up with AXA.

I also asked The Garage to put the RAV onto the state of the art wheel alignment system they have, since they moved to bigger premises. They found the steering tie rods were needing to be balanced (lengthwise to make the threads similar in length); and then reset the front wheels alignment. the rears were not to bad.

The car now drives like a dream again, with a sharpness of engine responsiveness and the road holding is even better.

Beware of mad breakdown truck drivers in the warrington area - the guy had no idea and even less inclination to want to help. Hopefully someone from Egertons will waken up. (He also said he could only take me 30 miles if I wanted to go home - being 204 miles from home thus was not much use! I expect he'll be getting a career challenging discussion as my cover extends to any distance to get home.

And if he'd just let us run it up the ramp as a courtesy we might have seen that from underneath. He gave the impression he just couldn't be bothered - @sshole. So much for his bionic laser alignment eye!!!

Hoovie

I'm looking at possible places for another meet at the moment (maybe I should start another thread), it's quite hard trying to find somewhere we can all get to! ;)

After the great time we had meeting really nice folk, even tho most were English, yes - we'd be up for a meet down south. Just don't make it the motorshow as thats just too much for Mrs Bothy! (Besides there'll be wardens to stop me racing up and down the carpark).
