Yep Celica for me...

celica.JPG

only joking! :P havn't been able to get the sw20 back on the road in time for the drive around the country session that is christmas so pinched the old mans Celica.

Have to say :-

More body roll

More Pitching

Not as good brakes

Not as good acceleration

Not as supportive seats

Not as good grip

but its ok, its a TOYOTA!

I used to own a gen6 Celica, but now I've got an MR2. Was expecting the MR2 to be almost identical but with the engine in a different place - can't believe how different it feels, MR2s suspension is much harder.

I still miss the low down torque of the 1.8 engine though, the 3S-GE does nothing below 3K rpm !!!

And I daren't push the MR2 as fast in the bends, heard too many horror stories :(

I recond the average high speed bend can be done about 20mph faster in a MR2 than a Celica, i used to drive my dads 91 celica before he got this one, never drove it as much as the MR2 but the 2 is in another league for handling

Only the GT4 (ST205) were 4wd ..

I drove an NA Celica Gen6 before I got my turbo .. the guy had tuned it etc .. got back in my Rev1 NA. At that point I knew I couldn't go Front Engine FWD ..

so the new celicas (VVT-i) etc are FWD?

That kinda sucks then. FWD aint to bad, but i must say i do prefer RWD.

Funny thing i did the other day. M8 was a little tipsy so he got me to drive his punto, and it was weird as hell driving a fwd car w/o power steering, i was understeering like crazy at first, so much i couldnt belive it. Was quickly rectified tho!

One thing i did enjoy was going over speed bump in 2nd / 3rd, can't remember the last time i did that... I'm a down to 1st gear, clutch controlling my car over b*****d bumps :ffs: !

yeah the celica's front drive, took a mate out for a spin in it tonight and he thought it felt now where near as quick as the mr2. I think it must weigh more and it's got the non tvis 173 engine then emission robbed to 168bhp engine, they just don't pull any where near as hard as the older tvis 158 bhp motor, i gues the mr is a bit modded, from other peoples dynos i guess may be 140lbs and 170 bhp.. and they have a higher ratio box

Comparing the MR2 mkii with the Celica GT, both with identical engines, it's the MR2 that weighs a bit more, about 80kg from memory.

Tis crazy, it's smaller and has only two seats, you'd think it would weigh less. You can really feel the weight on the MR2 on bends though - that's why I'd never take bends as fast as I did in the Celica - all that sideways momentum and a big lump at the back.....

the celica is younger, different engine and gearbox, ends up distinctly slower, the same is true of 93 on mrs n/a's

mk1 mr2's are slower than mk2 mr2s, but i think your talking about revisions of the mk2. rev1 and 2 mk2 mr2s are faster than rev3 on, in practise the gap is bigger than the on paper gap, toyota figures put rev3 on cars almost half a sec slower to 60, but in practise on the road theres a bigger gap, demonstrated well at a meet by ryan and garrick, ryan was able to easily pull away on the dual carrageway in his rev1, garrick in rev3.

I'd advise anyone with an MR2 that doesn't have the confidence to corner hard take a few driving lessons at a trackday. MR2s can go round bends at stupid speeds, you just need to know where and how much throttle to use when cornering. Believe me seriously faster round the bends than any celica bar a GT4.

The MR2 is heavier than the Celica because there is more metal involved in the construction.

In the Celica, there is a bulkhead between the engine bay and the cabin, and nothing between the rear seats and boot/luggage space.

In the MR2, there is a bulkhead between the front luggage space and the cabin, another between the cabin and engine bay and yet another between the engine bay and the boot/luggage space.

Could be why the MR2 body is a wee bit stiffer tho.
