New Shape 03 T3s Estate. N/S/R Seat problem or Passenger seat if you prefer. Stripped rear of car for carrying a load for friend, I pressed mentioned seat button to fold seat forward & whole button went straight down into seat. Stripped seat, release mechanism broken. Toyota tell me I need to buy top 1/2 of seat, cannot buy mechanism on it's own. This cannot be correct or can it, any advice would be much appreciated

it doesn't sound right to me, but there's a chance that it is.

Is it not fixable yourself?

I am not surprised by your post I had a similar problem regarding a cracked door speaker cover !!

I enquired at the Toyota parts desk at my local dealer to purchase a door speaker cover and was told you cannot buy just a speaker cover and the whole door panel would have to be replaced at the cost of £380 +fitting.

As the part is not available through a parts number he suggested I phoned Sheridan at Toyota GB and explain its just the speaker cover that was damaged and that Sheridan had obtained 2 speaker covers for the sales department to repair 2 trade ins they had .

When I spoke to Sheridan he was most rude in fact I have never been spoken to like it before !!! I was even more surprised coming from a Toyota employee .

In short he asked me how I got his telephone number and would not speak to me as I had no right to phone him despite being given his number by the Toyota parts department

Despite writing to Toyota GB ,Toyota Europe and Toyota Japan and receiving sympathetic noises from them they would not provide the speaker cover despite the fact the speaker cover is held on by 4 Screws and at some part in the manufacturing process it has to be fitted .

So much for Toyota's legendary customer service

So I am not surprised by the response you received I am afraid Toyota are not the same company as I dealt with 20 years ago the only reason why I continue to buy Toyota's is the fact my dealer that I use is exceptional

Parts King is the person you need to speak to why don't you send him an email and let us know what he says obviously as he works for Toyota he has to cover his back if you know what I mean

I think the cost of the speaker cover would be about £2 but why charge somebody £2 when you can get £380

i agrre with what you say but both the seat backs, and the door panels are made by outside suppliers, the seats by johnson controls automotive at burton and the door panels by faurecia at fradley park, lichfield. they come to the factory already assembled, thats how the factory buy them in so i assume it would be the same for the dealerships. i have given you the 2 company names, why not contact them directly to see if they could possibly help you.

But why was the sales department able to source 2 speaker covers for the repairs to there trade ins ??? why was I not given the information you have just provided by Toyota GB ?

Don't you think Toyota GB may have been in the best position to approach there supplier for the part

In my case I traded in the car and gave the Dealer the problem they did not seem to bothered about the speaker

I fully understand Beagh1958 problems and hope he has better luck than me in dealing with Toyota GB

Regards to all for replies. Thankfully I do my shopping via Toyota-Eire, local family dealership very very helpful. So it would appear they are right, trip to the breakers I think is due. Thank you for seat supplier name, may give them a call & see what sort of reply I get.

I lived in London in the past NW-- very large Toyota dealer based on long road with many other car dealers around, no names mentioned please. I am the second owner of car sold by above company. In & out on a regular basis for bit's & pieces (whole family have various Toyota's) I was made aware of problem with Headlamps misting due to connection melting. Still driving with same H/Lights being told point blank that they knew of no such problem. Needless to say I took my business elsewhere.

Trading Standards & all other approachs could not budge them. Please no postings telling me it cannot be so, I am in the trade & have the TSB to hand with times & dates of all other contacts by phone, email & letters etc etc.

Thank You in particular for seat suppliers name. May be able to go through Toyota-Ireland?????

When I spoke to Sheridan he was most rude in fact I have never been spoken to like it before !!! I was even more surprised coming from a Toyota employee .

Sheridan worked in the parts interpretation department, past tense you will notice, he has sinced moved on. The department only deals with dealers and they are very much over worked, however that is what we have to put up with as well !!!

PM the chassis number of your car to me, and I will see what can be done. Sometimes it is the case you cant buy componant parts, IE speaker covers, just a full door trim at vast expense

Kingo

I have also had to speak to Sheridan and even with me being a toyota technician he wasnt very helpful/happy then lol.

Its the same with the Technical dept too, call them up - if you arent one of the listed techs able to call them they wont speak to you!

We had the memo regarding the amount of time parts/technical waste talking to people who can actually find out the info they need from the Toyota intranet so i guess they are pretty busy with the amount of dealerships in the country there is only a handfull of people in part/tech depts.

Thank you Moonstone Mart and Parts King for your replies as it rather confirms my story because to read it you would think that I made it up ????

I do understand he may be under pressure but I am sure Moonstone mart and Parts king are also under pressure !!! what job is not under intense pressure at the moment

It rather undermines Toyota obsession with requiring dealers to provide courteous and exceptional customer services to be let down by there head office staff.

The most annoying thing at no time did I receive an explanation from Toyota as to why they were unable to source a speaker cover and believe me I did try

Hope Parts King may be able to help you

To Parts-King.

Sorry not sure if p-message went through.

Car is 2003 new shape Avensis Estate T3s.

Release mechanism part nu required for N/S/R seat or rear passenger seat if you prefer.

I have managed to purchase release button to fold seat forward if this is of help. Known on Toyota bag as

Button-RR Seat Back: 72661-05020-B0, would be much obliged if you could supply me with part number for the release mechanism.

Metal parts of seat perfect ie: striker plate & locking mechanism, all I require is plastic components that connect release button down to seat locking

mechanism. From broken parts removed from stripped seat they all appear to be plastic.

Regards, Beagh1958.
