Has anyone found that the glove box handle pops off quite easily in your hand when pulling it open?

I know it's quite cheap and the latch is a bit hit and miss. Mine seems to be very tight and you have to pull the handle out as far as it will go before it realeases, unfortunately a few heavy handed friends of mine have yanked it and its came right off, it even happened to me once.

Has anyone else had this?

My daughter is on her third glove box door, but I don't think the handle has broken yet

She had the current door fitted 2 weeks ago and the catch fails to hold it shut.... what a rubbish item. It seems that it will have to go back to the dealer yet again, good job it is all warranty work

Yep, that's happened to me too.

It was a bit tricky to reattach especially getting that little bit of metal in the right place. Wouldn't want to do that again.

Its because the pressure prises apart the front and back of the cover which hold the handle, so it pops out. I am trying superglue now to try and hold the front and back together. I'll let you know how i get on!

I've had the problem as well.

It's a know fault with the Aygo's and there's a replacement part available from dealers.

First my catch came off so they fitted the revised catch which was fine until it came out completely due to the glove box snapping near the catch due to the handle coming off.

Had the hole lid replaced 2 weeks ago and it's fine now.

My daughter took delivery of her Aygo 'Black' in July last year and the lid was fitted as standard :)

This has happened to me as well. Once, I opened it a bit too quickly and the handle popped off in my hand. Took a good ten minutes of fighting with the thing before I could get it back together again. Almost drove to garage to get them to fix it!

This is from a glove box part fitted by me to a standard Aygo.

I didn't need superglue or anything, nothing was actually broken, it was just a case or reassembling everything.

The glove box lid is standard on the platinum too. Not sure I would bother with it if it wasn't.

Have also had problems with the glovebox lid my wifes "Blue"

Ist of all it kept falling open , took it back to Toyota in Dorchester and they said it was a known problem and there was a clip which could be fitted to stop this but had found that the handles would then pull apart,

They fitted the clip anyway and sure enough the handle keeps pulling apart.

Took it back and they said Toyota were well aware of the problem and assured me it would be sorted as they have been told by Toyota that they would come up with a mod.

I suggest anyone with this problem (aftermarket or standard fitment ) should contact a Toyota dealer and insist it is sorted. This may kick them up the bum a bit. :o

Haven't had a problem so far with mine - but I use it very gingerly - it looks like it would fall apart at the slightest touch.

Yeah I would nearly consider swapping for one of them, but I heard its even flimsier than the Toyota one.

It IS; I swapped my Peugeot-lid for a Toyota-lid a while ago.

That didn't stay closed, so it was replaced under warranty.

Now it's getting hotter over here it's starting to fall open again,

so if that keeps on happening I'm going to see about the clippy-

thing at the latch or maybe install a magnetic lock/latch myself...

Yeah a magnetic latch would be an ideal solution! hmmm something to investigate.

I have tried superglue and a plastic adhesive, they dont work. Hmm havent tried 'No Nails' yet

Mines fine regardless. Sure all your gloveboxes arent overloaded? :P lol

Its not keeping it closed thats the problem, its getting it open. Anyway I think the plastic adhesive worked, its holding the latch much more firmly :) So yeah!

Getting my can of lagoon blue spray tomoro so I will be painting my rev counter surround :) Will post photos of it when done!

As it is getting warmer here I'm going to try and see if DIY goes my way and make myself my own glove box lid. :D

The plastic adhesive was useless! peeled off like copydex!

But solution found! I used 'precision loctite super glue' and its sorted!

So anyone with the same problem should be able to fix it with that, just make sure u don't let the glue near the handle or you'll stick it too!
