Has anyone found that the glove box handle pops off quite easily in your hand when pulling it open?

I know it's quite cheap and the latch is a bit hit and miss. Mine seems to be very tight and you have to pull the handle out as far as it will go before it realeases, unfortunately a few heavy handed friends of mine have yanked it and its came right off, it even happened to me once.

Has anyone else had this?

As it is getting warmer here I'm going to try and see if DIY goes my way and make myself my own glove box lid. :D

What's this lid thingy that's been posted on the thread? I've heard that certain models, like the Blue, come standard with a lid, mine is only 9 weeks old and didn't come with a glove box lid?

As it says on the tin really, a lid - or door i prefer - for the glove box, mine came as standard with the blue but you can but them there are pug and toyota versions which slightly differ in handle but all of them seem to be quite poor quality and end up keep opening

Hope that helps

I have felt lined the top of my glove box lid, mainly to cover the glue marks around the handle area lol

Mine stays firmly shut, don't know if the felt helps.

I also lined my coin tray as well just to stop things rattling about in it, works very effectively!

Good idea Jeff, it looks well. I'll be on the look out for a colour co-ordinated piece of felt for the job!

the felt is a good idea, im going to do the same :)

LOL, to just the coin tray or both? I should have patented it. I got the felt off eBay, it matches the Aygo Blue really well.

After picking up my AYGO Blue and driving it home, before getting out of the car I reached for the glove box to put an Ipod cable in, only to find the handle came off in my hand was a slight disappointment

The Toyota Dealer put a new one in without a sniff of disapproval but not a good start to a new ownership

They should have made it a turning knob, that way they could of saved .0001p on the spring steel mechanism, thus adding the saving to the single door light switch, boot switch, boot light, mpg gauge (considering we're trying to motor thin air you would think we should be interested on the most economical means of motoring), temp gauge, bonnet seal

I'm not complaining, it's just interesting the lengths they have gone to save a few quid.

It's a great little car, I used to own a 3 year old Alfa 147 (bought from new) but after a cambelt failure and £1700 later it was time to say goodbye to the Italian Look and embace the lifestyle of family life, budget and sense. At 57mpg £35/tank and the old Alfa was 35mpg £68/tank I should of divorced my Italian wife sooner

Great Forum by the way!

I've fixed my glovebox handle by removing the entire lid and going back to, in effect, a lower spec car. I have turned my Platinum into an Aygo Pewter. :)

I'm amazed the glovebox handle passed design and testing phase, it's crap to be honest.

hello, I picked up my new Aygo Blue ( slate blue) this afternoon, I love it !

however, the glovebox handle came straight off in my hand, I realize seeing the posts here that this is a known problem, but is there anyway I can get the latch back on myself?

I have sat fiddling with it for over an hour and I just can't get the two end prong bits in together.

I know I can take it back to the dealer, but if it is something I can sort tonight would prefer as at the moment my 4 hour old new car had sellotape on it keeping the glovebox shut !

any suggestions gratefully received.

regards

TL

It ain't that good!

Merseybeat, just loosen a couple of screws either side of the locating holes for the handle, ease the lid halves apart, insert handle and then re-tighten screws. After about the 20th time it becomes second nature.....

thanks aygo-bloo - will give it a go,

the sellotape had pealed off already so I now have blu-tack on it

thanks

The glove box door almost put me off the Aygo, it was the first thing I tried in the one in the showroom and literally fell open as soon as I touched it. Its not a great indicator of a quality product when I looked at the C1 and 107 it was almost a relief not to see the door.

That must be the new edition you have bought, the Aygo Blue tak

Do yourelf a favour and throw the whole glovebox lid away, it will also make you car lighter so it goes (very) slightly faster. Heh, every litle helps as they say.

My glove box kept falling open so fitted small strips of self adhesive velcro near catch. Works a treat !

I had the same problem. After 2 weeks of ownership the glovebox handle came off. I managed to force it back into place. The door opens and shuts alright but the handle doesn't sit flush with the door.

I've had mine for 4 days now, opened the glove box for the first time and it broke in my hand!...i was shocked...!! I seriously have to cut down on thos protein shakes...damn those advertisements all over the gym!

I managed to break mine before even getting the car off the dealers forecourt, went to open it to check he'd put the documents in there and the handle popped off in my hand, really is a rubbish bit of plastic. I'd imagine that the face lifted Aygo will have to improve in the quality of finish department if it's to compete with the Fiat 500, new Ford Ka and other new entries to the small eco box market we are seeing.

My handle is on still just, but it keeps falling open depsite being taken back to fix at Mr T, someone did sugest to me using stereo clips??? (I think thats what they said.. I have a short attention span  ) and going to try and find some and do a Bob the builder job on its ***** or its going in the bin.
